Pertronix units are a really good investment. I've used them since the 1970's and never had a problem with a one. The only thing I could complain about it is the availability for certain vehicles. I know they make a "universal" model but they usually have fitment issues. I like the "plug and...
With that severe of a crack I would go with the new case. I welded professionally for 10 years at "Kolstrand Marine" . Lots of stainless steel and aluminum. The main problem with the aluminum is the warping. Since this is a transmission case and in a critical area the warpage would cause severe...
LOL !!! I was just talking on the phone with my best friend tonight who I have known since high-school and we both went to mechanic trade school together. Has talking about a friends kid who came into his service station yesterday. She is a beautiful women now and at first he didn't recognize...
I forgot to mention something else the writer said in that debunker article. He said by using anti-seize you would be able to use "bad" lug nuts longer ! After thinking about that today I realized how full of it he was. If the nuts and thimbles can handle the torque then they are perfectly...
They actually forced me out ! Said I was to old and busted-up to work anymore ! What I think it really was is they can hire some young bucks for about half the pay and vacation time. Well at least that gives me more time to play with my toys !
You don't have to just run fuel in these cans. At work on the wreckers (they have 6) we have our Anti-freeze, engine oil, gear oil, transmission oil in them. I plan to have spare anti-freeze and engine oil in mine for my trip.
I don't know if that small of village would have the proper "TIG" assembly to weld up aluminum. Then again they are a pretty independent lot up there !
I like the part where it states that the ten vehicles that will be allowed back on the road where retrofitted Military Vehicles and not the purpose built touring Ducks. Serving strong after 70 years !
The problems with that "Myth debunker" is one, he is just a fleet owner not a manufacturer and second it came out in 2006. Now in 2016 we have companies like "Merritor" saying to "use" anti-seize on the stud threads. At the transit agency I work at (or actually just retired from) we are told to...
Out here in Washington you would here the semi-trucks with Detroit's start to wind-up when going up the pass's like Snoqualmie. They would be screaming when they hit the top of the pass !
On the deuce just remember " tighten to the front-loosen to the rear" . So on the drivers side you will tighten the nuts by going counter-clockwise or towards the front of the truck.
Those old "Jimmys" are great little engines ! They just go on and on and on.......
They do like to leak oil though. In fact oil loss is calculated into their design. They also are not very fuel efficient. The main problem with them today is parts, especially the blower units. Since the EPA...
I totally agree with everyone here about trailering it home. There is just to much to check and fix in just five days. This last person let it set for 4 years, but how many years was it abused before that ? Seems like they didn't care for it, and for the previous owner who knows ? Just get it...
