Which "both posts"? One large post should be 24 volts and the other large post should be 12 volts.

Check the wires that go through the door jambs for crushing or exposed conductors. You have a short circuit and that is a likely spot.

To me, checking this involves pulling it out of the transmission and verifying the plunger moves with the gas pedal. I am focused on this item because on a vacuum modulated TH400, it will also not shift out of first if not functioning.

I have found that no matter how discharged the batteries are, if the alt is charging, the voltmeter will read in the green.

Possible intermittent connection to the alternator excite wire, but most likely the alternator is on it's last legs.

Since "they" convinced you to buy the wrong alternator, you will have to figure out how to attach the huge cable to the little stud on the 60A. Recipe for disaster.

Remove the PDP cover and 12 volts is the middle connection on the left.
