The thin metal pieces under the bolts are called lock plates and indeed are intended to be bent up to prevent the bolts from backing out. You bend up the little ears to match the flats of the bolts.
Both the early and late bows (1st and 2nd generation) simply slide into holes on the top of the bed sides. You have to decide if you want 1G or 2G bows. The 1G are not economical to ship even motor freight, the bows are huge (8'x6'). In Texas, Red River Parts (New Boston) has those in stock...
Only $90? Wow that is the cheapest thing I have ever heard of from the Cat dealer. It's kind of an inside joke with me, "what is the highest imaginable price for this widget" when I go to the counter.
I painted my D7-7M with 33070 and I consider it correct. Consider buying high quality flat enamel paint by American Coatings available from Brent Mullins Jeep Parts. This paint does far better in the elements than Gillespie paint.

Flamed why? You are absolutely correct. Seems like you could connect the inlet and outlet lines of the dryer together to effect a "get home" workaround.
Here is how I did it on mine: Remove decontaminator bracket. Mark where the hoses go and remove. Remove the little screws that hold the cover on to the reservoir. Take the cover/pump assy into the workshop/kitchen table for repair.
Please buy your CARC substitute paint from Brent Mullins Jeep Parts. They have paint made by American Coatings and it is a perfect match for CARC. The Gillespie Coatings paint sold by others is entirely too glossy and has been for years.
