Please accept my comments as sage advice and not peeing in your cheerios. If your HET breaks down, the best contingency plan would be a cell phone to call a hd wrecker to get a tow to a local diesel shop. It will not be safe to use the 818 to tow the 37,000 lb HET along I-10 at 15 mph.
Silly question, why are you driving a M818 from La to Ft Bliss in order to recover a M1070 back to Fla? You should have left the M818 at home and flown to El Paso. The road surface is already too hot for older tires to hold up.
What is it? If it a item banded to a pallet, send a motor freight company directly to GL. For rolling stock, you need to enlist the services of any one of hundreds of transportation brokers who match trucks and loads. Make sure to tell all details such as if trailer ramps or winch-on are needed.
Here are some pics from yesterday's adventure. Great bunch of folks, very helpful. They have literally acres of trucks and trailers, I lost count on how many 34 ton trailers. Anyway, my loadout was uneventful except for a large sidewall crack that developed in one trailer tire. I kept speed...
I would put a gas can under the hood on the passenger side and connect to the pump and go for a spin. That will eliminate the tank, or not. Don't sell the truck, you are missing something simple but hidden, once you figure it out, the 880 will be super reliable.
My 880s have never vapor locked ever using the stock metal tubes. And it is HOT here. I have filters before and after the mech fuel pump to protect the valves from debris.
Neat back story!
Heck, the stock unit only puts out 16 amps and it catches fire randomly!
The stock alternator (Leece Neville) is just a plain jane 85 amp 12 volt alternator that happens to have 3 leads coming from it to feed AC to the transformer-regulator-smoke generator.
Thank jpinst. I have ordered one.
I know from working in A/C that the btus of the evap, condenser and compressor should match. Does anyone agree that all of the Red Dot military products are the same rating, i.e. , components from the HMMWV kits should interchange?
Google "John Steele" "Sainte Mere Eglise". He was a 82 ABN paratrooper that got, well, in that predicament on D-day. The town has hung that mannequin up there for every celebration for a long time, I know he was there when I saw him at the 40th.
A long time ago my M135 was my daily driver (gas was a lot cheaper). I drove it against the governor (55+ mph) everywhere I went. I think I put about 10,000 miles on it. It is retired now in the back of my shop. I bought it in 1982.
