Absolutely... Calling their Tech line might save fifty people the pain that you suffered. And it would let them know they had a problem. Something they can easily fix - or maybe figure out that somebody on their manufacturing line wasn't following the process.
Wow! Happy to hear that you discovered the problem - and it was an easy fix... All the new sounds in a new machine are difficult to diagnose all at once. On the bright side - next time it happens - you will know where to look right away :)
Welcome to the group! Lots of good information here and plenty of opinions too. Can't swear that the "green sickness" will make you immune to the "beer virus" but it will definitely keep you busy
Wes, I know that you run the roads in the winter too... Will that auto drain on the wet tank need a heater as the weather gets colder? Or is that just not something just not worthy of consideration most of the time - considering the part of the country we live in?
One mans trash is definitely another mans treasure. Heck, all of us have something that "Uncle" thought was trash - and we treasure it for sure!
I can remember back when the owner of a junk yard would let you go out and waunder around - and find what you wanted - go make a deal and pull it off...
MEK is almost the best thing invented since sliced bread! I use it to clear out traces of oil before laying in fiberglass on buckets (bucket truck buckets). THANKS for the info about how it works on cleaning diesel. I have one tank on my M936 that is really gummy. So much so that if it ever...
Wow! Thanks Zed254
It's cheaper on epay to buy the complete cable compared to buying two cable ends - and I don't have to do anything but plug it in! Thanks for the lead. I ordered it up and should have it in a couple of days. THANKS!!
Thanks Coug
I hadn't really looked at it carefully. Was thinking maybe that rubber sleeve was a replaceable part. Guess that means I need to go out there and unplug both ends and bring it inside where the air conditioning is. Should make it easier to think clearly :) Thanks for the pointers!
I poked around in the TM that I downloaded. Not much luck finding the part numbers I want (need). Pictures below show the rotten rubber on each end of the pigtail. Lights seem to work just fine - but the cracks mean water is getting in... Has anybody got a good source?
Best way to give ball joints a quick "look" is to lift the wheel on one side off the ground about an inch (or so). Grab the left and right sides of the tire and attempt to turn (push) it left and right. Check both sides just to be sure... If you see motion, you have a problem and need to make...
Hi mzak88,
Short answer is E2209R for the Right Tie-Rod and E2210L for the Left. Those numbers should work at NAPA, MOOG, TRUCKPRO, and OREILLY. There is a list on here somewhere compiled by @simp5782 for the 5 Ton.
Congratulations on becoming part of the unofficial green army! They can be incredibly frustrating sometimes - but use a little of your "recliner time" to go over the Dash 10 training manual (TM) for your truck. It will tell you how to operate it and give you a good idea what to expect from...
I particularly like your analysis of why "hacking" a solution isn't a good idea. Being the first one at the scene of the accident will definitely cause you to have a really bad day. Especially when the lawyers get involved... And that assumes nobody got killed...
The young man that I bought my - M989A1 Heavy Expanded Mobile Ammunition Trailer (HEMAT) from rigged up a small air compressor and auxiliary tank in the back of his Dodge 1 Ton truck. Hooked the "out" on the compressor tank to the emergency line on the trailer. He used it that way regularly...
Very interesting... At least one must have gotten out alive. Just spotted one of these on FB in the "5 Ton and Up" group. For sale for $5250 in Elk City, Oaklahoma. I figured a quick check here was in order... Only slightly disappointed... :-(
Hi Eracer46,
I kinda agree with @gringeltaube about the syncros. Your transmission definitely looks good in the pictures except the odd color brass. The oil captures you did don't appear to indicate anything bad that I could see.
As I was reading and looking at the nice pretty bright brass...
Yeah, the hydraulic clutch might be neat - and a little less work - but there is nothing quite like a mechanical linkage. You have more "feel" for what is going on between you and the rest of the driveline that way IMO.
Truck is definitely looking good!
Eracer46, I agree with @m715mike about the gear oil. The 80w90 has a "sulpher smell" especially when it is warm. Company that I worked for in the 1980's had hundreds of Deuces and almost two hundred 5 Tons. All with gearboxes and clutches - before the Allison automatic was the thing to...
