Looking at a Deuce, Has Some Issues

Wow! toocheaptosmoke, You did good. In my mind, the time you spent most likely made your trip much easier... Home safe and sound. Hard to ask for more than that. Adjusting the brakes was a definitely plus along with swapping out the Air Compressor belt. Like you said, the others were a...

What's this do on my 936 Wrecker?

I understand. I would have expected there to be a specific layout too. From what I have gathered with my conversations and from SS members - the wrecker is different. I do have two small pieces of "angle iron" welded to the bed on the driver's side. About 6 inches tall. It appears that the...

What have you done to your MTVR today?

The more I see it, the more I really LIKE that truck... I can't quite put my finger on it. Is it cause it's big? Or maybe because it is BIG? ;-) . Or maybe because it is 25 about years newer than my 5 Ton maybe. You could just about fit a Deuce in the bed of your truck... Still can't...

Three Ring Pistons v. Four Ring Pistons?

Hi WildernessJeep, I definitely don't claim to be a Diesel Mechanic and I have ZERO certifications from any organization. On the other hand, you mentioned "put the engine back together right" in your post a little over a month ago. It seems to me that if you were far enough into the block to...

What's this do on my 936 Wrecker?

A little more info: Those heavy metal plates are "Boom Jack Base Plates" Stock #2540-00-040-2299 (2 required). The book you really want that has the BI listed out for your M936 is TM-9-2320-272-10HR If you don't find it on here, don't hesitate to PM me and I will email it. It is a 20pg...

What's this do on my 936 Wrecker?

A little more information... TM9-2320-272-24P-2 seems to do a better job of showing parts and part numbers. I have not found a BI list (yet). I do have a couple of pictures to share from somebody on here that posted them when I was trying to figure out what to look for. The Wiffle Tree is...

What's this do on my 936 Wrecker?

That bar is for the "feet" that support the boom for heavy lifting. You should have one on each side of the winch. Those boom supports look a lot like the poles in the foreground of your picture - but are considerably longer. Picture below... (ignore my winch, it is different than yours)

    Our MTVR camper:

It's your rodeo. Just thought I would mention what I saw. Your truck looks plenty neat and I'm not trying to be a "hater"...

    Our MTVR camper:

I know it would be more of a "pain" to do, but having the top step with more than the toe hold is available now might be nice. Any chance you could go to a local sheetmetal shop and have something similar bent - leaned back - toward the frame? Or maybe use that same piece of wood and a piano...

New, retired maintenance warrant, purchased MEP803A

One other thing... When somebody sends YOU a PM, you will find it "in the envelope" in the top right corner of your screen. Sample pic attached...

New, retired maintenance warrant, purchased MEP803A

Hi ArmyClint, PM messages are sent by "mousing over" the person's "handle" or name, then START CONVERSATION. Or, click the name, then click START CONVERSATION. Both get you to the same place... Remember, Private Messages just keep them from the general public's eyes. Those messages are not...

    Picked up containerized kitchen

Should I presume that same 303 Protectant would extend the life of the "rag top" on my "convertible" 5 Ton? I tell all my pals that I have an 84 convertible  It is always good for a laugh when somebody new sees "the convertible" for the first time.

    Headlights flash with turn signals

And if you want to go "on the cheap" alligator clips could be optional. I just like to use them because if things go bad - you can yank the wire - and immediately undo what you added to the circuit. Long years ago, company I worked for would buy F750's with just the cab. We would convoy the...

    Headlights flash with turn signals

Frank, Is there any chance that you have a drawing like that for the electrical on a 939 Series (936 in particular) truck? Or maybe a CAD drawing of the hydraulic plumbing on that same truck?

    Headlights flash with turn signals

Either that or a really bad ground. It might me worth a 20ft piece of 14ga wire with an alligator clip on each end. Clip one end to the ground on the battery and the other to a known good ground INSIDE the turn signal on the brass base for the bulb. If the problem suddenly disappears - you...

    Simp's M915A1 Build Thread

Wes, that looks nice! I thought it looked pretty "tough" in black, but that green is really good. Need to get a couple of pictures at about dusk with the convoy lights and park lights on...

M998 with helmet top fitting in a 7ft Garage door.

I have a friend that parks his Deuce in his garage. He had to remove the top of the stack and the intake snorkel to get it in the door. Has to fold down the windshield too. Even has to duck his head to get under the doorway... Hate to say it, but nobody is going to be able to say for sure...

Looking at a Deuce, Has Some Issues

Well toocheaptosmoke... Opinions are like parts of the anatomy. Everybody has one... Driving it home with leaky, cracked boots isn't going to be the worst thing that ever happened to your "new to you" truck. Logically you will be holding the steering wheel dead ahead most of the way (less...
