My M275A2E1 tractor is equipped with the LDS engine, and I regularly pull a 25 ton lowboy weighing 10,000 lbs, and the most I have carried is 26,000 lbs. The trailer brakes do most of the braking. If you look at a data plate for a gas M-48 or M275, you will see that the gross trailer weight...
4/9 UPDATE: More deuces arriving at Ft. Sam by the day, sweeties, notice they are riding IN STYLE on RGN's, no Redstone antics down here in TEXAS. Not sure where they are from because the unit markings were painted over with yellow paint, I think OK is using red paint???
Whoever...
Doesn't look bad to me at all. If that hard top is made out of steel, that is a hard to find item, and the Braden winch set up is very desirable. If you don't mind having a kinda slow truck, fixing what you got could be a option. Brake parts are not that bad, and you could fab up a wiring...
Is it me or are those MTVR's a little bit fugly looking at the front end? I think it is those rectangular headlights, how 1980ish of Oshkosh . . . But the 450hp makes up for it . . .
vj, many kudos to you for taking the time to restore this incredible WWII truck. All of us need to pay more attention to the second war steel soldiers, like the WWII human soldiers, these trucks are getting few and far between. They deserve our attention, even if they are slow and burn huge...
Cutting out at high speed is a fuel starvation problem. Mine does that when the fuel filter is getting plugged. It can be the in-tank screen plugged with goo. Blow through the hose on top of the tank with your mouth, should blow easily. Various chassis fuel hoses can be collapsed internally...
Tires for the 880 (9.50-16.5) are not available from gov't surplus. They are still made, see a tire dealer, they will run you about 125 ea. You can mount HMMWV tires which are 16.5 if you do some lifting. What do you need for the steering column? Post a WTB in the classified section, lots of...
Has anyone found a safe way of neatly rewinding the cable after a pull? My method involves engaging the winch, running out of the cab and grabbing the cable with leather gloves, and guideing it onto the drum. The extra dangerous part is the last few feet when I have to jump in the cab and...
Radiation!!! You bet, just on the 1950's trucks with the radium lettering on the gauges. Try bringing a old rusted deuce to a modern scrap yard, that's what those sensors are at the scales, they will come running out of the scalehouse and throw you off the property, ask me how I know . . .
In Houston they have 7.00-16 NDCC, 9.00-20 NDCC, 11.00-20 NDCC, HMMWV Goodyear Wranglers, the Goodyear and Michelins for 900 series 5 tons, and the HEMMTT monsters. All are nice deep rubber
