When you mention other hoses you have had made - I assume you mean the fuel lines and such? Those turn to :poop: and fall off as black powder.
These are what the 3 fuel lines from the tank look
Like. Return line is ugly. Supply line looks like a replacement. The vent line was just open ended and folded over, buried under the tire. Shouldn't that have a breather on the end? I was curious on that

Yes I've already had 2 those remade. Those were average looking and the boss o rings on the HEUI are flat looking, so replacing. I'm in a mode right now, if I remove a line for any reason, it gets tossed. O rings too. However most of the large coolant lines look fairly new. Every Cat I own has been an exercise in hose and o ring replacement. I just had to do 10 o-rings and a pilot line on the backhoe hydraulics. Simple things but ultra critical.

I'm putting one of those brass breathers on the vent line. See pic. Anyone think there's issues with that? Seems weird to have it just be an open ended hose. Got all the new ones today. Fancy

Got the oil cooler back together. Cat makes 2 types of seals. The newer one is different.
The white one came from the gasket kit 7x-2524 from the parts TM but the specific part number got superseded by cat to 300-7933 which is the black one.

Wow! Score on the Tootsie Roll! I have only got sunflower seeds, a pair of rusty channel lock brand pliers (definitely military), and a pneumatic riv-nut gun that was stashed inside the cab wall behind the drivers side seat belt retractor. Took months to find that one - it rocked side to side inside the wall of the cab when turning corners. Great job BAE!

All weather pen, MRE Tabasco bottle and some chapstick:)

For oil return, there should be a plugged port just above the oil pan lip along the block, and cat put dipstick ports in all 4 corners…
Last year I found an intact MRE heater between between the trans and the oil cooler lines. Still have it in case of emergencies.

Sadly they have a shelf life. The older FRH (Flameless Ration Heater) tend to just fizzle a bit and get mildy warmish as they age. Insufficient to heat food - won't even produce enough gas for an MRE bomb. MRE's have a 3 year shelf life when stored at or below 80 degrees F. They generally will outlast that but the FRH is one of the first things to go bad. That and the M&M's and the powdered creamer packets. If you really want MRE's to last essentially forever - freeze them. I've seen 30+ year old MRE's that were basically PERFECT from the freezer.

That's pretty neat. I didn't try to use it but nice to know it was sitting against the trans housing lol. The tootsie roll is probably editable if you don't mind the greasy wrapper. This truck had lots of spent 223 rounds in the bed and some busted optics.

This is silly perhaps, but we swapped the voltage and water temperature gauges and the 12volt and emergency flasher switches.

We have been looking at reorganizing the dash layout to easier monitor vitals. After contemplating adding transmission temperature, rpm, current gear and drawing new gauge and switch layouts we realized what we really need straight up front: current speed, oil pressure, coolant temperature, with fuel level, air pressure and voltage from time to time.

This feels much better for now—

Bypass filter install. I borrowed some unused lines from another project just to mock it up. Need some longer ones but the position looks good. I'll put a heat shield in between the turbo. Not a ton of room for a 17" filter but it's fitting.
