    help please M1008 electrical system

The voltmeter is a military only part, not available from Chevy. Any 24V meter that fits in the hole will work fine. The add ons depend on what you want to run them on. I would recommend 24V because it pulls less amperage than a same strength 12V one and you can hook it to the big junction...

Help1 Need 6.2L starter bolts or dimensions..

The bolts are still available from GM I bought two last week, just ask for starter bolts for a 6.2L. Don't replace the bolts with regular ones, they are special and normal bolts will snap off. Part number on the AC Delco box in my hand is 15544950. This is on a box of 5 so I don't know if this...

    Key and tumbler/ignition switch?

Definitely sounds like the lock cylinder failed. You can get a replacement from almost any parts store and have it rekeyed, or just have a door and ignition key like a normal truck. To change, pull the steering wheel, then get a lock plate compressor (most parts houses rent them) and remove the...

    Volt gauge wiring

The ground runs through one of the two black cube relays under the dash below where the stereo would be. One controls the voltmeter and the other controls the Gen 2 circuit. They are right beside the silver starter solenoid relay. As a temporary check, you can swap the relays to see if the...

Insulating M1009 for sound and temp

The biggest culprit for sound in the 1009 is the lack of insulation on anything, so the sheetmetal just reverberates like a tin can. Anything you add will cause a difference, the question is, how quiet do you want it? Rhino lining or other bedliner will stop a good portion of the road noise...

    Electrical add ons

The rear battery is 24V and a 12V inverter will burn up from the over-voltage. Later, Joe

    Glow Plug behavior

Yes, the glow plugs are designed to cycle a few more times after a cold start to promote better fuel burning to lower emissions and improve idle. Later, Joe

Anyone with cargo on Arrow Truck Lines?

That story and some of the others that have shown the compassion of strangers during times of need reaffirms my belief that America will continue to be ok. Thanks for sharing, I've passed the story along to other boards I'm on that are tracking this story. Later, Joe

OD Iron AC install for the AC novice

Here is another thread that already covers the OD Iron install... with pics http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/20944-od-iron-ac.html Later, Joe

And the M818 repair questions start...What is this?

In the first pic the screw is behind the pipe above the silver valve with the wires in the shadow. It's really obvious when you look at the solenoid, there are wires on one end and the screw on the other (towards the front of the truck). When the screw is turned in, it pushes the solenoid into...

And the M818 repair questions start...What is this?

I second doublechecking the fuel screw. The GL guys love screwing it in if the batteries are dead, my 816 was like that when I got it. Nothing else was wrong with the truck, just the screw was turned in. Later, Joe

    Can someone explain isolated ground?

The theory of operation of the CUCV system requires that the ground for the passenger's side alt be isolated from the rest of the CUCV's electrical system because it is charging the battery on the 24V side of the system. The reason is because the 24V side is isolated from the vehicle chassis...

Where can I get a RADIATOR REPLACEMENT???

I second the above comment, while people say AL radiators have better thermal efficiency, the quality of construction and repairability leave too much to be desired to make this efficiency worth it. I've had an AL radiator in my Cherokee just up and pop one day at the tabs. No repair possible...

    What do I have?

It's a M1028A3, the A1 and A2 both have the 205 transfer case. It is the same as any other CUCV pickup with 4.56 gears and a Dana 60 front. The conversion kit to turn it into a dually included a rear sway bar, Dana 70 rear axle (I believe with a Detroit Locker) and the necessary front hub...

Anyone with cargo on Arrow Truck Lines?

Actually I know that Swift, Schneider and Jim Palmer Trucking (haven't heard about JBH) are waiving the 'no passengers' rule for Arrow drivers. At last count it is estimated that over 600 drivers are still stranded out there. A couple of reports have come in that a few drivers are walking...

    starting my "new M1009"

If the glow plug system is disabled, a LITTLE ether won't hurt but don't go too heavy with it. The glow plug controller is a little black box about the size of a pack of cigarettes to the left of the column under the dash. See post #7 in this thread for a pic of the box... if yours looks like...

Anyone with cargo on Arrow Truck Lines?

The banks are repoing trucks right out from under drivers. One driver went in to take a shower and came out to find his truck gone. The instructions were to take the trucks to the dealerships and drop them off. They were told that bus fare would be arranged, but it wasn't. Daimler and Navistar...

    Mystery trailer??

I would recommend using the pintle, not the clevis as the towing capacity of the pintle is much higher than the clevis... :-D And yes, it is an M200 that is missing the fenders. They typically mounted 30 and 60kw generators to them. The cake is a lie... Later, Joe
