    6.2 disel clatter / rattle.

1990 M998 6.2. Truck was running great and then from time to time while driving it would start a loud diesel clatter / rattle and then go back to normal. Now it has the clatter is all the time. It's not like a rod knock but a clatter. Almost like when using starting fluid to start one. Also...

Broken glow plug tip removal, well kinda broken

I can get the Hemostats on the glow plug Tip, I can feel the tip move around. Problem is the tip is hitting the back of the chamber and still in the hole at the same time. Hemostats just slide off ever time I try to lift it out. Tim has an idea to use somethin curved and go under the tip and...

Broken glow plug tip removal, well kinda broken

Well round 3, it knocked me down but not out. Tried just starting and hoping that the compression would blow out the tip. Well not with my luck, just had a miss in the engine. Sounded like #6 lol. The homemade glow plug harness and timer worked like a champ even with only 7 plugs working...

Broken glow plug tip removal, well kinda broken

Only other idea I have right now is to turn the end of a bolt down to the tip size and screw it into the hole and hopefully crush the tip enough to lift it out.

Broken glow plug tip removal, well kinda broken

That might be the next step. Waiting on glow plugs now so when I get them I'll try that.

Broken glow plug tip removal, well kinda broken

Well the problem is it will not come out. I can get hemostats on it and it moves some but I am guessing it's too long to clear the head where it will come out. It didn't brake in half, it's the entire tip inside. Best I can tell the tip is hitting the back of the chamber and is still in the...

Broken glow plug tip removal, well kinda broken

OK I was removing the glow plugs. Three were swollen, one really bad. On #6 the entire glow plug tip separated from the glow plug. I have removed the injector and my son says that the tip is loose in the hole but we can't get it out. I can't really get my fat arm and fingers in...

    Headlight going POOF

Well I don't think I have Chinese knock off unless the military has started buying them.

    Headlight going POOF

No it's the other truck. Only issue it seams to have is headlight.

    Headlight going POOF

My passenger headlight keeps going out. Any ideas on what can cause it? I am up to five or six now. Nothing seams wrong in the wiring that I can find.

    Glow plugs FRYING. 24V constant

I was thinking wiring harness too. I've cleaned grounds and added a grounding harness.

    Glow plugs FRYING. 24V constant

Also wondered about alt too. It's a duel voltage 14v 28v but using a test meter I can't get any 14v readings.

    Glow plugs FRYING. 24V constant

That's an idea. Batteries are older and might be weak but they will crank the truck over for ever. When warm weather I just crank till it will bust off.

    Glow plugs FRYING. 24V constant

I don't really think it's the box causing the problem. The wait light just flashes on and off 10-15 times. Never counted. I used a known good older style box, matched controller, and new plugs and the same thing happened. That box and controller was put back into my other truck and it worked...

    Glow plugs FRYING. 24V constant

    Yes on 24V plus.

    Glow plugs FRYING. 24V constant

OK I am totally baffled. The glow plugs will not work and cycle and keep frying. HMMWV came with fried plugs and bad PCB box. Replaced plugs, PCB, and controller from known good truck. Plugs fried. Replaced PCB with new box, has 3rd access port on box, new controller, new plugs and the...

    It's still a pig

Well I got time to paint it. Lipstick on a sure makes the pig look a lot better. Got it almost done and realized I used Forest Green so repainted with RAPCO 383 green. Looks a lot better with the lighter green. I still need to do the three color camo. Can't decide on the RAPCO brown or just...

    Thermostat / heat

Any way to lower the operating temp on a 6.2. 1990 M998 The fan cycles somewhere above 205 / 210. Noise and loss of power and heat are my issues. Thermostat in the truck says A180 but it looks like the motor is running 205 - 210. I would like to get the temp down some so the fan doesn't...
