I was able to save an otherwise good engine, after someone had already buggered up one of the holes, trying to remove a broken bolt.
No helicoil in the world would have worked, in this case. But drilling out/threading both holes to accept 9/16"×18×L 1-1/2" full-thread bolts (pre-drilled &...
YES. And most likely the main reason also, for your oil puddles...
Both surfaces are machined. Best if you clean everything nice and dry and then use something like Loctite 518, instead of a gasket.
Wes, I do know nothing about MTVRs...:-? But still, I suspect that's a mistake there, in that list...
Fact is, NSN 2530-01-0355-0639 is correct for the M1070 wheel assembly. (TM 9-2320-360-24P, Fig. 163; item #4). Maybe it's the same wheel as well for the later model PLS trucks.
But the MK23...
Well, what they all have in common is that the hub diameter will always be limited to 280mm - as long as they wanted to stay with the most popular, industry standard truck wheel center. (281mm pilot hole; 335mm bolt circle.)
On the other hand, wheel backspace varies a lot, depending...
Although I have only seen images so far, to me they are the same as most MRAP steel wheels: 20×10", two-part, 12-studded bolt-together wheels, 10-on-335mm bolt center, about 11" backspace.
That's right, but since you started a thread here (in the FMTV sub-forum) you need to stay here; not start a second one about the same topic, elsewhere. It's a rule.
Welcome to Steel Soldiers!
Of course, we can always move your thread to the other forum (South Eastern US Chapter), if you...
This IS an internally balanced engine, by design. So if your flywheel has been well balanced now to being "neutral" then those holes are proof of the fact that it was out of balance, before. Same goes for the pressure plate, BTW.
I think the military never cared much about this. Because so far...
:ditto:
I'm assuming you have the Bendix type CV-joint with the four large balls, which is the same as in the older M39 series trucks.
This is covered in the old TM-9-2320-211-35, on pages 283-285. (The images are extreme poor quality but the description is very detailed.)
Last time they moved a conex for me (Nov.2018 ), the man in charge was Joey's partner/coworker, Jon Raum.
BTW, service was 1st class, as always!
And back in February this year when I emailed them (both) for a freight quote I noticed that it was him who responded, and Joey was not copy mailed...
Only 4 years ago... you wrote this, which I fully agree with:
Now you seem to have changed your mind completely...?
This was my experience from many years ago: I converted my first M35 to a M35A1 (installed a LDS427-2 with a brand-new 3053 behind it). The very first trips were done with...
It still is remarkable that they (Timken) are happy with such a wide range of free-play; going from what I would consider "almost nothing" (0.001") up to 5 times as much (0.005").
>0.1mm play may be on the safe side still, but certainly causes a clearly audible knocking while rocking the wheel...
No, the OP's PTO in question does not fit any of the Deuce transmissions, as it is...
The Spicer 3052/53 requires a T25 input gear, RH (right-cut) and it is positioned to the rear of the window. (left in the picture)
Here is a drawing I made, according to specs I've gathered over the years...
