My '71 also had a round knock-out in that spot. In fact I accidentally knocked it out when removing the part. Had to have it tack-welded back in place.
I just recently learned that older models had square front light brackets (the turn signal lights, I mean).
Metal or plastic for the blackout light? (maybe that's too nit-picky)
Edit to add a pic: what the heck are these double-front marker lights? (above the turn signals)
I have often thought that this site could use a FAQ or directory of surplus providers, along with a quick description of the kind of stuff they typically carry.
Great advice as always, G--the shaft is out. What worked for me:
Pull the shaft out as far as I could and jam some washers between the lever and the end assembly, so it couldn't slide back in. Then heat the shift fork and tap it with a little hobby hammer (the one they give kids who come in to...
Thanks. So on the original equipment, trying to wiggle the shift fork back and forth (such as to rotate it around the shaft) is pointless because there's a key inside there? I should only try to move it left and right relative to the shaft?
I'd like to replace that oil seal so I can keep things properly lubed in the future.
Does anyone have a pic of the shaft once out? I'm kind of fighting blind, not knowing where the woodruff key is, etc.
Thanks, guys. I'm now at the point where I've got all the set screws out of the shift lever but I can't seem to get it free of the shift fork. I suppose there's nothing more to it than PB blaster, tug and wiggle. I'm not sure how high the gear oil is supposed to be inside the case but the top...
I've got the snap ring out and I've not only tapped it on some wood, I've fully wound up and HEAVED it at a piece of 2x4 on the workbench and I can't get that metal cap to pop out.
I also tried getting a pick tool in around the edges to pry it out, but no dice.
Any other suggestions?
Following the TM on a winch tear-down, I'm wondering the purpose of step #3 in this frame. "Punch stake marks on knob and end-frame assembly." Why would I do this? To index the knob to be installed back in the same orientation? Since the knob has a big flange that sticks out to one side (the...
I bought a new soft top on ebay and it does not have the plastic clip along the front edge nor the inserts for the side locks. Are these parts available anywhere?
Hmm, just re-read the auction and found this: "tops were made in 2005 in vinyle, and rope slides not the plastic slides that breaks"...
