Steel Soldiers now has a few new forums, read more about it at: New Munitions Forums!
Microsoft MSN, Live, Hotmail, Outlook email users may not be receiving emails. We are working to resolve this issue. Please add support@steelsoldiers.com to your trusted contacts.
If you can do this, I'll pay you a few bucks (via PayPal) to take photos on the highest resolution and largest size you possibly can (You'll have to email them to me, they'll be far too large to post).
Let me know.

Re: RE: tractors, tractors, and more tractors
Don't so far as I know - but that doesn't mean such a thing doesn't exist. However, I did omit the M932, M932A1 and M932A2 winch-equipped trucks.

M52, M52A1, M52A2, M818, M931, M931A1, M931A2, XM757.
During WWII there were several five-ton tractors fielded, in both 4x4 and 6 X 4 versions, but it'd be tough for me to cough those up off the top of my head.

The data plates on the passenger door make me think this may be the real deal. However, it looks like the back of the frame may have been cut off - so that puts doubt in my mind. My eyesite is crap - can one of you guys make out the registration number on the hood? At least the first 2 digits...
Yes, but I really need to look through a 1950s vintage manual to refresh my memory on all this, and I am visiting a friend for the holiday.
If Kenny or someone else doesn't chime in - give me a shout Wednesday.

Nah....not what I woulda done with it...but not my truck! (I am, after all, one of the few who went to a dealer and said "I want to buy a M62 with a R6602 - I don't want a Mack, LDS or Cummins powered wrecker."
DD
IIRC - the tire size is different as well. The M816 is designed for vehicle recovery and use as a crane. The M819 (and predecessor, the M246) was designed for aircraft recovery. It towed a long, but relativey low weight capacity low boy trailer, and used the extra boom length to lift aircraft...
I 1966 Army vehicle would have been painted FS595A 24087. As discussed at length in other threads, this is NOT the same color as the current FS - FS595B 24087. Closest I've found in FS595B is 24084. Sencilling is in white - and there is a lot of stencilling on a wrecker. When I painted my M62...
In two months a new issue of MVM will be out - and it will have the photos you ask for.
If you are gonna be painting before then - drop me a PM.

90% of the 170,000 some thousand G-742 series trucks have only a single air/hydraulic cylinder. The op manual for these trucks is the TM9-2320-209-10. Only the very final trucks had the dual system.
All the elaborate venting is to allow deep water fording. I believe if fording and originality...
With regards to the 12/24 volt lighting issue - you can replace the existing lights on the trailer with the new LED units and I believe it will then be suitable for operation on either voltage. No first hand experience here - but that is what a friend of mine did and I've heard no regrets from...
The Vietnam-era M15A2 trailer can be difficult to find - but the last trailers these were commonly used with were the M747 - which are being surplused now.
HTH,
David
The light looks like the one used on Bridge Trucks, pipeline trucks, and maybe bolster trucks. Definately not stock for the M35 - the bed is also an add-on - dropsides did not come out until gas engines were gone. Fuel tank looks like a replacement from a Multifuel as well. The cab top is also...
