    Check your VINs, and seats

OK guys, I need a little more help. If your deuce has a FACTORY installed spring ride seat - I'd like to know the VIN of your truck (either post or PM me). I'm trying to nail down the dates of various running changes in deuce production. Thanks, David Doyle

Help with data plates for possible Deuce purchase

Well, its a 1973 model dropside cargo truck. It appears (best I can read the data plates) that it probably has its original LDT-465 Multifuel engine in it. From wear standpoint, that is probably not a good thing - but from a collectors standpoint it is a very good thing. FWIW - truthfully...

    250 or Multi fuel?

Over here the Cummins-powered trucks tend to be preferred by commercial users. This is probably due to their familiarity with the brand through their other trucks, and the local availability of Cummins parts almost anywhere in the nation. Also, the earliest Multifuel, the LDS-427, had a...

    XM757 Markings

The command historian at Ft. Sill is a guy named Towanda Spivey. Of all the military museum historians I have dealt with (which is a lot), this guy is the most decidedly unpleasant, and unhelpful - but perhaps I consistantly got him on bad days. However, should you need to pursue this avenue...

    A 10 tire M135?

Many of these trucks that were processed through dealers (Memphis, Boyce, etc.) were converted from singles to duals (the opposite of what many buffs are doing now). Do you know if this one was run through a big dealer's shop? DD

    2007 a good year to get a 5 ton

The trucks are nice - but I'd rather have one of those airship hangers in the background.....now that's a shop/garage! DD

    WRECKER FOR SALE IN ARKANSAS

Hmm...Pocahontas Arkansas - only place I've ever been stopped while driving an MV. Not a bad looking truck. DD

Lots of Military Vehicles on GSA site in MO - ends Jan 15th

This is a real sensitive area, with both sides having merit - and I have friends on both sides of this issue. Back a few years ago when I was more aggressively buying trains than I am now, two buddies and I went to the world's largest train show - over 10000 people are in attendance. My...

    Gas in crankcase?!

As I recall, the max input fuel pressure on the Holley on the GMC is about 2-3 pounds - you'll need a pressure regulator. HTH, David Doyle

    Deuce Tranny, Things I've Learned

RE: Deuce Tranny, Things I I previously owned a nifty creeper with an adjustable, elevating back that was ideal for use with the deuce. I'm not sure what my ex-wife thinks she's gonna do with it..... DD

    Deuce manufacturer

RE: Deuce manufacturers It would be illegal for anyone to scan and email the article to you, that is, a violation of copyright law. However, if you were to ask the publisher - they would likely send you a copy (they view these things as incentives - if you get a copy, there is a chance you'll...

WARNING - DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid

Re: RE: WARNING - DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid Any idea how long this would take? I wanna investigate this closely, and in a controlled enviroment. Thanks for the input. David

    what was your closest call?

The military sent out a warning on this sensor, and directed that it be relocated. The info is on this site somewhere - I'm sure someone better with the site than I can point you to it. Glad all are OK. DD

    Build Dates of M816s

GamaGoat - if you'll PM me the VIN number of your truck I can probably tell you when it was built. This may take me a couple of days - I've been amassing the data of the 800 series trucks as well as the deuces for many years, just haven't built the tables yet......but I feel certain we can get...

    Deuce manufacturer

Close Kenny - the truck in question was built on a 1970 contract, but it is a 1971 model, as you correctly noted is indicated by the registration number, as well as the axle dates. General Products Division existed from March 26, 1970 until March 31, 1971, when AM General was formed, although...

WARNING - DOT 5.1 Brake Fluid

The studies done at length by the U.S. Army prior to the adoption of BFS (DOT 5) showed no adverse affects of mixing DOT 3 and DOT 5, other than negating the benefit of DOT5 I had tests done at a reknown lab on the same subject - which interestingly showed that when DOT 3 & 5 were mixed, the...

    whats it worth

The long side axle shaft is prone to breaking when in a strain - if that is the case here, you know that the drivetrain has had some abuse. The front fenders and tailgate seem to be where the money is on body parts for these. DD

    5 Ton gasser parts

The Zenith carb for a R6602 is bigger than the engine in some of the rice burners on the road today. The Holley for the R6602 looks like the one on the deuce - but I think it is actually bigger, I'd have to look in the ORD 9 to be sure. HTH, DD

    Combat rims

If you are referring to the true combat rim (WWII-style)....if you unbolt the ring of bolts around the perimeter, the ring will come off. Then, as the tire comes off, you'll find that there is a steel band inside the tire. This band is trapped between the beads of the tires. The idea is, that...
