MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Replacement Prototype

First spin of the PCB version built. Tested in one of my 831A's. Success. Need to tweek some of the hole sizes and use a different terminal strip before ordering the next batch of PCB's.

    MEP802a Fuel sending unit tradeout

A while back someone said a Auto Meter # 3262 would work. See https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?126484-MEP-802a-Fuel-Sender-need-cross-reference-part-or-source/page2&highlight=3262

    MEP-802A and MEP-803A Wire diagrams

On my 802 there two wires on the ground post on the control panel door. They appear to be labelled: 100AW20 & 100L20 The ground port to the right of the A1 Regulator has two wires on it. The one that is the ground for the shield does not appear to be marked. It's a small white wire with a...

MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Replacement Prototype

Yes, the replacement controller I'm working on will NOT have any pots. The entire assembly, except the terminal strip, will be urethane coated to keep moisture out. There are no need for any pots in this design since the microcontroller constantly reads the PMA frequency and directly controls...

Mep 831 a inverter stand alone set up

TM 9-6115-639-13&P dated 20 APRIL 2010 shows all the connections to the inverter including which connectors and pins. See PDF pages 581-589 for wiring details. Also see: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?164142-MEP-831A-training-presentation-with-schematics

MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Replacement Prototype

NATCAD.. cool.8) Nice to see there is some interest in this endeavor. Need to get in some more run time on the prototype before committing to ordering the pcb's and parts. 3D model of current PCB design. Pink strip is the terminal strip for the 9 wire connections from the 831A. Silkscreen...

MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Replacement Prototype

The circuit I used does work using the PWM output of an Arduino. ( My initial breadboard version was Arduino based.) The PWM circuit is quite simple. It uses a TIP120 NPN Darlington Transistor, a 1 K ohm resistor and a couple of general purpose 1N4004 diodes. Be sure to heat sink the TIP120...

Wireless AutoStart with Remote Parameter Monitoring

Actually my system for the 802 & 803 does not in any way influence the mechanical governor with my system. It only provides the ability to remote start an 802 or 803 and remotely monitor the engine and generator parameters. However... my prototype 831A SLC100 Governor Controller replacement...

Solar Panel Idea for 24v Battery

That is just a solar panel. You'd want a charge controller between it and your genset batteries. Not good to hook the panel directly to the batteries as it could/would overcharge and ruin your batteries.

    Just picked up an MEP-803a

You should be able to crank and start it without the diode on S1. I looks like it's purpose is to keep the pre-heaters warm right after doing a pre-heat and keeps them warm while cranking.

    MEP-831A, No Output Voltage

I noticed the same thing on my 831A's. Maybe GAC re-designed them at some point.

    MEP 803a battery question

They would have started it by applying 24V to the slave port on the 803A. 803A's are made to be jump started via the slave port and can run and make power without batteries once it's started.

MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Replacement Prototype

Pictures fixed. Chris, I started with the Arduino Uno, then switched to the Arduino Nano for the first breadboard and finally to the ATtiny85 for the prototype shown above. The ATtiny85 has limited I/O but was more than adequate for my application. I use 2 analog inputs and a single PWM output...

MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Replacement Prototype

MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Having purchased a couple of MEP-831A's I found that the SLC100 Governor Controllers are problem prone. The two Tier 2 Reset units I purchased with just 2 hrs on the clock both randomly exhibited surging issues as well as random WOT issues. Adjustment of...

    Secure MEP803A

Maybe modify all the existing latch's to "lock" them. A low buck method would be to drill and tap a hole in each latch plate. Position the hole so that when a bolt is screwed into the tapped hole from the outside it prevents the latch from rotating. Use an uncommon bolt such as a security torx.

    MEP803 Newbie, need advice

MOV stands for Metal Oxide Varister It's an electronic component about the size of a penny and is usually used to protect equipment from voltage spikes and surges. They are commonly used inside power strips that have "surge suppression" built in. The MOV is an "open circuit" under normal...
