Pics of trailer mounted MEP 831

For me I mounted my two 831's on stud mounted casters. They bolt right into the existing holes in the 831 skid.

MEP831A recoil start, bleed fuel lines

As suggested I let the 831 sit un-used for about 3 weeks in the garage. Wheeled it outside today, fired it up and it started and idled properly. Let it warm up for a few minutes, no surging at all. I then applied a 3,000 watt load to it (two 1,500 watt heaters). As expected the RPM's went up to...

    Corrosion Control Cart

I did a bunch of Googling and I found a reference to NAVAIR 19-20D1 being the illustrated parts breakdown for the unit. Couldn't actually find the document online though.

New MEP 802 New User New Mods

Nice work! Give me a few ideas on how to improve my setup. I did a few things to my 802 to make it quieter. - Removed the hoisting rings because they rattle and clang while the set runs. They can always be bolted back on if needed. - Removed the ground rod set because it rattled a bit while...

MEP831A recoil start, bleed fuel lines

Good point. Reverted to toggling the heaters off and on for the remainder of the hour long run. Controller behaved perfectly for the run. Smooth RPM increases and decreases based on the load applied. Will do additional tests in the coming days and weeks and will post updates. Will be letting...

MEP831A recoil start, bleed fuel lines

Re-installed it, started the unit, tuned it per the instructions and it's working perfectly so far. Currently running it with a 3K load and periodically opening and re-closing the contactor to be sure it throttles up and down smoothly without surging or hunting. So far so good at about 20...

    803a hours

My Noco 7200 brought both of my ~14 volt MEP-831 batteries back to life and work fine now. :)

MEP831A recoil start, bleed fuel lines

Just put a new SCL100 in one of my 831A's with a faulty governor controller. Found I had to back the Gain off a bit more than specified as it would idle down really low when dropping the 3K load and then surge back up just before stalling. Once I backed off the Gain it idled down smoothly when...

    MEP803a Catastrophic Failure

Hopefully your other 803 will get you thru and not let you down. Tough times in FL for sure.

    MEP-831A 120 Volt output Loading?

Yes I follow. But... The info posted by boatman69 contradicts your info regarding how much current can be drawn from L1-L0 in 120 volt mode. 15.5 amps vs 31 amps. Hoping to find a definitive answer. Guyfang - Do you agree with the 15.5 amp max per leg in 120 mode? If indeed it's 15.5 amps...

MEP-831A Governor Controller Voltages. TM Typo?

Guy, The NSN is: 2990-01-477-1371 The PN is: 98-19539 Per your suggestion I updated the initial post to highlight the error in RED and the correction is in GREEN. Also added exactly what TM, version, section, paragraph the error is in.

MEP-831A Governor Controller Voltages. TM Typo?

Checked it and it's seated well. I suspect the control module went south. All voltages going to it are in spec but the voltage to the actuator is pegged at about 25 VDC causing the actuator to fully rotate and allow the engine to stay at WOT. Adjusting the 27 turn SPEED pot has no affect...

Thanks you Dewie and KE5AFU for the info and confirming the TM is incorrect.

MEP831A recoil start, bleed fuel lines

If the target is off the magnet the set will start/run for a bit regardless of the position of the RUN/STOP switch. One of my 831's wouldn't shut down even with the switch in the STOP position because of a No Fuel fault. With a No Fuel fault power is dropped to the governor controller.

MEP-831A Governor Controller Voltages. TM Typo?

Got a MEP-831A that I suspect has a bum governor controller. Was reading the TM -13&P and I suspect there is a typo regarding voltages that should be seen on the controllers D & E LOAD input terminals. TM 9-6115-639-13&P dated 30 APRIL 2010 page 19-1 paragraph 3. PDF page 160. It reads... 3...
