Working On The M561 Gama Goat

As long as you aren't diabetic, your body handles it fine. Enzymes are present to deal with occasional exposure. If you go into ketoacidosis frequently, you are already exposed so that becomes chronic.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I feel de-vaporized now...shooting color wasn't bad at first, after the third cup, I started to smell xylene, the reducer. No real CNS effects, guess the cartridges might be nearing replacement. When I started, acetone was the solvent I smelled, that is easily tolerated.

    Another not starting post.

Looks like a leaky injector caused piston overheating which ate the piston causing low compression. If the cylinder is good, replace piston and all 8 injectors. Also, might be worth a ring job on the other 7 Pistons.

Air over Hydro Brakes in op (M35A2)

Sealed master cylinder can develop a vacuum with temperature changes and stuck breather. Then each wheel cylinder cup will suck back just enough to prevent brake action.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Yesterday, we discovered one of the jerry can tie downs on the left was broken, AFTER we had finished welding. So in the break of priming, I went to work. Fabricating the missing piece was easy, aluminum cuts like wood without grain. I used a cut off piece of it to clamp everything together...

    Rivet Nuts or Riv-Nuts

Proper lubrication of the threads is a must. Tricky with aluminum, never use graphite. Only aluminum rated anti seize or pure MoS2 grease.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I ace tomorrow off, I could prep and mask. Still some rubber, tires and data plates. Plus wires and the like. but until the weekend, I'll be busy. Found my A tool bag, it was left on the bumper of the 1031 and luckily, it dropped off inside the gate. Spilled tools but no biggie there, I need...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Rice is a WIMPY desiccant. Even if you bake it dry at 250 F for a day. I'll bring over my can of 3 Angstrom pore molecular sieves for the ultimate dry. Silica gel requires a 225 F oven for a few hours to recharge. Molecular sieves require a 460 F oven for 6 hours to recharge. Quite a bit...

    m1009 brake issue

DOT5 is higher viscosity than glycol based fluids and likes to trap air. I use a power brake bleeder (Motive brand) and have no issues with entrained air using DOT 5. On CUCVs, all it takes is 5 PSI at the bleeder jug to do all 4 wheels. And one quart. Now on a three axle FMV, two quarts and...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I've set Rivnuts without a special tool. Used an aluminum bar, toothed washer, threaded rod, greased washers and a nut. Works like a champ.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

The other good progress was getting the rear steering box cover removed. Unfortunately, a good deal of the screws were seized so they either broke or had to be drilled out. Now the rivet nuts (Rivnuts) will have to be replaced. Look like 1/4-20 thread so that is easy but still one more thing...

    Remote AC

Would be far better to use the inverter as a variable frequency drive to vary the speed of the compressor, much like is done with high efficiency ductless mini splits.

    Remote AC

Was considering it but built my own 24 volt DC compressor for a bit less. Surplus motor for $80 plus a $180 compressor and a few other parts. Built the motor compressor coupling from the clutch hub on he compressor, using a Lovejoy coupling. even the big compressor only draws 31 amps, at 30...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Pulled a heavy load with the SECM, dump run of old composition roofing and junky lumber. 4280 pounds, plus the trailer. I was over the load limit on the scales so I had to pay extra. They don't know what is in the box ;). I determined my SECM weighs in at 8225 pounds, minus the red headed...
