Ok, a couple of things, if you have a 30 amps 120/240V inlet box already in place, then you are going to likely want to go with the MEP-002a as its output is 26 amps in 120/240 single phase mode. For the inlet setup the simplest solution would be a breaker interlock kit such as one of these...
I don't have much time to type now so will keep it short, It depends on what your needs are, the most popular options are the 3KW (really more like a civilian 4-4.5 industrial model) MEP-016 family, these include the older gasoline powered pull start MEP-016a, and c, the 1980's Onan diesel...
If this is a MEP-016D, why not hook some jumper cables to the starter and save your arm some pulling? It will crank on 12V even though it is a 24V starter
There really is not much to go wrong in the MEP-002a and MEP-003a generator end, and they are modern brushless designs. The voltage regulation system is a bit esoteric, but other than the AVR board where we now have an aftermarket alternative, most of the rest of the AVR circuit is fairly...
Utility set just has the mechanical governor built into the Stanadyne DB injection pump which is good to about +/- 2 HZ, maybe a little better, the Precise set adds an electronic governor and actuator arm that adjusts the speed control arm on the injection pump to keep is as close as possible to...
It is at least a good sign that it ran recently, so the injection pump is probably not seized up, sounds like time to put fluids, and filters on it and fire it up.
Like others have said, tan tends to mean "sand", unfortunately green can mean sand too, my MEP-002a is green, and the control box and cooling fins were full of sand when I bought it.
It may be something very simple like a push to reset circuit breaker that is not resetting. If you want we can guide you through a few simple things to check like this before paying someone a lot of money for a simple fix.

Like other's have said condition codes are nearly meaningless, and is based on the paperwork that came with the unit when it was turned in, not any type of evaluation done by GL or DRMO. I have bought many things from GL that were listed H, HX , etc.that were either fully functional or easy to...
I doubt it, as to the noise issue, what sort of location are you going to be using it in? I find many people worry too much about the running noise of these generators, and while they are loud the 1800 rpm engines make it more of a roar than a scream, so it is not like someone is running a lawn...
This is the contractor that had the assembly contract, I am not sure if there are other differences on the MEP-802a, but on the MEP-002a and MEP-003a they were built from the same parts, however the parts themselves have have been different revisions over the years. With this series it was a...
As the other's have said GL is a dice roll, and they take no responsibility for anything, they don't even promise that the photos are of the unit in the listing, although they try to not get them mixed up, it does happen, it is not uncommon to find a wrong picture mixed in, like a plain green...
It depends on the model to some degree, in the case of the generators we are talking about it tends to be less of a problem on the air cooled diesels, part of that may be that the MEP-004a and MEP-005a water cooled models tend to have a reputation for being very prone to this condition, the...
I am not sure, I think he posted a few messages either here or on Smokstak offering MEP generator parts 3-5 years ago, but would not even swear to that. At the time he seemed to have a good online reputation.

I was referring to Tom at Gulf Coast mentioned in the previous post, there have been multiple threads here and on SmokStak regarding orders placed with him in the last 2-3 years that never arrived, parts sent for repair that never returned or took much longer than quoted, etc.
Here is one of...
The military does operate lots of civilian generators, particularly in non combat standby generator operation, they also seem to tend to change them out all the time. I know when I go to pick stuff up from GL at Ft Polk, near here I have to drive by at least half a dozen between the front gate...
A cheaper "fix" is adding a battery disconnect switch and turning off the batteries when not in use.

p.s. A lot of people around here are upset with Tom for not doing work or shipping parts as promised, I don't know what happened with him, but his online reputation seems to have really...
