The deuce has only been used around the yard since returning from OK with the 8x8 in tow. The "knock" is of concern, I may be a bit paranoid about it and all the people that has listened to it more or less just shrugs it off.
The low oil pressure IS an indicator of something not being quite...
Good addition. You may want to consider mounting the pyro in the area above the steering wheel column because when you start driving with it, you'll be looking at it every time you hit a hill or step on the "gas". There are plenty of images posted showing this mount.
Much appreciated! I'm restoring a box for Chris and he couldn't get to his truck and the ""ears" on my box were cut. :-)
Turns out to be the same as the hole spacing for the 25 Amp regulator box...
Here is the wiring of the engine/magneto. Check for broken wires or peeled insulation.
Download the Lo 9-2805-259-12 from the resources section (15W40 oil).
Not much of it is covered in the 260-20 TM, for sure...the evaporator kit on my 8x8 has one line going to the air intake tube for the compressor and another to the governor with check valves in separate lines. Don't know if that's any help, but check other manuals and come up with a common...
Yes, the firewall mounted 25Amp regulator is bypassed when the 60 amp alternator is used.
I have the kit of wires (still sealed, I believe) if you can't find it elsewhere. PM me if interested.
Here are a couple of images of Patrick's tires configuration, which I think is most sensible for a highway trip. With proper wheel alignment etc, they should last the whole trip.
Well, I love this little engine and kind of assumed that using regular engine oil was another of the compromises by the military (using something on-hand), like using engine oil in transmissions etc.
I have ordered 5 quarts of 20W50 aviation oil and at less than $5/qt, not terribly expensive...
Well, I would consider eliminating "unnecessary" functions, such as the reverse polarity protection on the battery hook-up and even the oil pressure sensitive start switch. Certainly no solid state here with associated problems during start-up, loose battery connections and shut-down.
This air cooled engine, which is used in the 10KW genset, is sometimes also used in ultralight aircraft (can't find any quick references, but anyhow), so how much of the following would apply to this engine?
Aviation Oil Facts
This is the front "service" glad hand only and it has check valves further down stream, if pressure builds up due to any leakage through these check valves, it will lock the brakes up, therefore when a glad hand cover is used, it must be vented.
There is no interaxle differential, so the axles will "fight" each other at all times on hard pavement. They will want to go straight, resisting any turning and any difference in tire rolling diameter will cause tire wear.
I remove the drive shaft between the two rear axles for my road trips...
Good to see progress Chris, if it was me, I might wire the starting system like it is on a deuce and eliminate that control box all together, you know KISS....
