If you have the space, a Racor filter housing can be installed with water repellent filter elements of various micron ratings (to the right in the image)....used on HEMTT trucks among other.
Thought I had uploaded the note on "water sensitive" paste on a stick from a PS magazine, but must have left it out...anyhow here is the commercial version of how to find water in your fuel:
How to Check for Water in Fuel in a Pontoon Boat | eHow.com
Guess I have been a bit sloppy with the spec, however the 97 series inserts fit the MS series "A" shells and will mate with the environmentally sealed connectors, if I'm not mistaken.
Yes Mike, checking the primary water separator/filter frequently is a good thing.
An improvement to the fuel tank drain is to install a magnetic plug, since rust particles are death to the FDC and IP internals.
For the record, I like to point out improvements made on the m656 series trucks...
Veggie oil is great, but use it smartly, for example, you don't want it in the system in the morning when it's below 60 degrees. My dual compartment fuel tank worked great with one heated and I'll post more as your plans come together based on my own 6,000 mile trip.
When selecting tires, think...
All right John, but the original, per TM specified, primary fuel filter element is indeed a 40 micron filter. On my 8x8 with the -2 multifuel engine, it's a 50 micron filter/water separator.
How is your original filter canister leaking, should be an easy fix?
Mark, if you want to look for a matching non-Wix filter, it should be 40 micron and also work as a water separator (with a drain).
Diesel fuel has higher BTU (heating) value, so it will inherently give better fuel efficiency/gallon.
Diesel engines don't like light loads, so they have their own problems, as has been posted before....
Yes, the cover does effect the air flow.
They are loud, but with something between the genset to block the noise, like the truck or a house, it's not too bad. :-)
Walking around it, the source of noise changes from engine noise to generator wine and back to engine noise.
What is the fuel...
Couldn't find the fuel consumption in the TMs, so I ran my genset for 60 minutes and measured the fuel used. Without a load, the fuel level dropped 3.0 inches in the Jerry can, which works out to almost exactly 1.0 gallon, so the 2.4 quoted by Kenny must be with full load.
I miss having a...
Look for TM 5-6115-275-14 and TM 9-2805-259-14 for starters.
Oil filter shown in image below. (Right click on image and open link in new window for max res.)
Agree 100%.
Also batteries like it cold for storage (minimal self discharge), but performs best at room temp, so a battery heating device is another good investment.
The sound is just right IMHO, used the flashers for hours on end during my cross country trip. With ear plugs and the engine roaring on long upgrades, the sound is at the right db level. In traffic, without ear plugs, it's good too, a sound fit for a deuce. If people outside can't see your...
Using the heater lines won't circulate the coolant through the block. Use the same connection points as used with the fuel burning coolant heater (a built in hot start system), one connection just above the water pump and one at the low end of the block near the starter relay.
The high...
