Yes, the GL threads were combined and locked because people were giving all kinds of crazy reasons as to why the trucks were pulled when none of the reasons had any proof to back it up.
Giving questionable info about why the trucks were pulled just gets people stirred up about something that...
I guess I'm just the opposite of you, I despise V8 diesels. I just like the long stroke most in-lines offer and they seem simpler to work on. Not that I wouldn't own one, I just avoid them when possible.
I'm glad you didn't go with the 8.3 GM. I've had experience with a couple of them and they...
The steering sounds about normal.
Check all the u-joints and flange bolts in the driveline. The short shaft going from the trans to the t-case is notorious for bolts working loose.
I guess great minds think alike, I also carry a crowbar to maneuver the landing gear, they are better than the single wheel but still a pain to swing up. I've never used one of the cam types.
I've been running my air-assist without a regulator without any ill effects. I'd say it will use a lot more air without it though. I've never had the buzzer go off but I could see it running out of air if you did a bunch of steering.
They make safety valves that will close air off to the...
Yes, use inserts. All of the deuces I've removed lines on, none of them had inserts but the lines were crushed pretty bad. I never install a plastic line without inserts because if you don't there's a fairly good chance it will leak and if it does you'll have to throw everything away and start...
Only thing I'll add is in my experience, a deuce is more capable off-road. A 5-ton weighs so much that they will sink if it gets too soft (super singles will help this). You've also got a bigger problem if you get a 5-ton stuck. I've had my m939 truck stuck, pull it out, and then drive my deuce...
Are you talking about slack in the splines of the slip yoke? If so, you probably do need a new driveshaft. I'd at least pull it apart to see what the splines look like.
Are you sure that's where the slack is coming from and not a bad u-joint?
I have took the standard ferrules and ground one end flat on a bench grinder. It does make them fit better doing this but as has been said, the standard ferrule without grinding will work.
Be careful picking up ferrules at a hardware store. The last time I did the return lines on a deuce, NAPA...
Well anybody can hide a remote controlled radio under the seat or dash so I'd it's needs to be in the form of a radio. Personally, I'm not really looking for a exact look-alike to a real military radio, just something that fits the style.
This has already been discussed many, many times. We don't need any more threads on this subject. They are being locked because we don't need 20 threads about this and everybody speculating about what's going on when nobody knows.
If somebody has a factual reason why the trucks have been pulled...
I did a search for AN/GRR8 on Google and this site and didn't come up with much. I did find a Youtube vid of somebody listening to some sort of music on one, it didn't sound half bad. What's the frequency range on one of them?
Some Peterbilt trucks have a air operated actuator that works pretty slick and you probably could make it work.
There are also motors available that will fit right on where the hand crank goes. I've seen these on a lot of big civilian trucks also. This route would probably be the simplest way...
Next time it won't start when warm, try pouring some water on the IP. If it starts, your IP is going bad.
While there are other reasons it won't start when warm, this is a fairly common symptom of a failing IP.
Edit- old "quick draw Kenny" beat me to it.
35 pages and still we don't have a definitive answer on the differences in the two engines.
I'm of the opinion that if you need a engine and a LDS comes along for a good price, go for it. Would a pull a perfectly good LDT and buy a high priced LDS to replace it with, no.
If your LDT is...
