Can't beat a good ole 'buzz box' ! If you know how to use it you can produce great welds. Great machine for heavier duty applications. When I worked the Fireboat in S.F. ,the engineer did some incredible work with an old Dayton 250 amp buzz box. It is definitely an art using those machines.
Went through this recently with my 1028. Tried a speedy sleeve and new seal. Stopped for a while then leaked. Found new yoke. Replaced yoke and seal. No leak for a couple thousand miles. Then leak reappeared. I also had fluid leaking from the seal between the t-case and the tranny. Turned out it...
Once the spin on base is installed, filter changes are easier and not as messy as the OEM setup. A fuel pre- heat option is also available. You can also install a filter with a screw on clear base ( below filter) with drain petcock to monitor any water in the setup and drain as needed...
Upgrade to spin on filter, add drain valve and hose, fill spin on filter with fuel, open bleeder and crank away. Should expel air first then fuel . Shut bleeder and it should start. Easy upgrade.
My 1028 is stock as far as the differential gear ratios-4.56 front and rear. I don't know the specifics of Dogheads rig but if I don't engage my overdrive the RPM's would be about the same as what he mentioned in his reply to the posters question. The Gear Vendor drops the RPM's by about 500...
I own a 1028 with 37"s , 4 " lift, Tiny Tach and Gear Vendor. Otherwise it is stock configuration. At 70 MPH the Tiny Tach reads 2310 RPM. At 65 MPH , 2210 RPM. I keep my foot at 65 and get 17-20 MPH. The 6.2 seems very happy at these RPM,s. The motor was a new replacement at Fort Sill in '09. I...
There are 2 reasons I mounted the calipers in the lower 45* position. First was to use my existing brake cables. The drivers side was 2 inches short, so I sourced a cable for a dually application - fit perfect. The right side I used the existing cable and welded a bracket to the axle housing for...
Sorry for the late reply Pete. The whole conversion including new hard brake lines , left side e-brake cable( get the one from Napa for a dually rear end, it is 2" longer) was about 700$. I reused the right side e-brake cable , had to weld on the brackets for the hard to flex stainless line...
Well another reason to run 37" tires is it will help reduce your RPM's slightly. If you plan on freeway driving it helps a little. One of the best upgrades to the CUCV is a tachometer of some sort. This is a relevant thread to your question...
I found mine on Craigslist and a local tire shop. They were straight, rust free and beefy. They are out there. I believe the old Ford rims will work also. Mine are Chevy camper specials. They were designed for cab over campers. The 7-7.5 wide stock wheels will also work on the 37's.
They will rub on your steering linkage. There is a compromise . You can still run your Baja TA's if you find some stock 70's era Chevy 16.5 " x 8.5 wheels used at your local wrecker or tire shop. That's what I run for my 37's. New 16.5 inch wheels are also still made. Check Four Wheel Parts or...
The spring loaded bars works well to level the cable wind and free spool. I believe HF just started selling the 12K with this feature . It is a bolt on so maybe you can source the parts from HF. Nice rig by the way and I wish we had some of that snow out here on the west coast!
Just finished up my Badlands 12000lb winch installation on my 1028. Thanks to Shankem for the behind the bumper idea. I did mine a little different. I had the engage/ disengage lever on the right side of the truck. This allowed the cable to operate on the bottom of the winch and not near the the...
