Another one to consider is TAB: Target Acquisition Battery. In my searches it seems to come up a lot when searched with TRADOC and Ft. Jackson. TAB 's apparently part of an MLRS battalion.
Here's an article mentioning them together...
Center of the U-joint is the standard way to measure a driveshaft. This is how the manufacturers do it, and this is how driveshaft builders do it. In my experience with various trucks, a NP205 is longer than a NP208 so the NP205 shaft would normally be shorter unless the NP208 uses a slip yoke...
RE: Thinking about making an M1009 clone out of one of my K5
Why would you need to change axles? Aren't the M1009 axles the same as a half ton civilian model?
Check over at the M715 Zone. I don't know if he pics of Barry's truck is still around but it was the most immaculately restored M715 ever and I doubt anyone will surpass it.
Beware, the formula for a gloss paint is not the same as a flat paint. If you use the same formula in gloss enamel, the color will be much lighter due to the gloss. Think back a few weeks to the CUCV that was painted at a shop twice because it didn't look right and the owner finally painted it...
Also try an impact on it. The hammer action can break loose a lot of stuff as well. Just be sure you are using it to work it loose (back and forth) and not trying to power through whatever corrosion is causing the problem.
Tires, they can be a pain if you want to stick with the stock rims. Most tire shops will not even look at them because they are a split ring rim. There are several tires that will fit the stock rims and work with the tubes. Check over at M715Zone.com for the best and most recent info.

From the info I have found the M35A3 WO/W the curb weight should be 13,900 lbs and the gross vehicle weight is 18,900.

Interesting that they are almost completely underwater when afloat. I wonder why they didn't in corporate a short, soft sided hull to extend upward something like what the S103 has. Seems if one track hit a stump or rock on the bottom, it could tip the APC enough to allow water inside and sink...
I think you are confusing a military sniper with a SWAT team marksman. They serve different purposes entirely. Some of what this vehicle is intended to do is provide an awe inspiring show of force to make offenders weigh their options carefully. A marksman in plain sight can sometimes be more...
I doubt they were dismantled just to sell. More than likely they have been picked over for parts for a few years to keep other trucks on the road. Our military does the same thing.
Only option is custom rims sice there is nothing commonly available that fit the M715 bolt pattern except some very old dually rims. Several people have gotten Marsh Racing rims for their M715s.

I believe Stockton Wheels can also make them, but they are way...
