When it is hot and won't start, try pouring some cold water over the fuel shut off solenoid on the IP. I've read on this site where that solenoid can fail when hot. So, no fuel, no start.
As I recall it, that gauge is switched on and off by a relay mounted next to the starter and GEN 2 relays under the dash. This relay should activate when the key is on.
Now, I don't understand why it was done this way, but that relay switches the *ground* connection to that gauge. So, as...
The passenger seat of a civy blazer does tilt forward. The M1009 passenger seat back, and only the seat back, tilts forward and when tilted forward allows the seat bottom to slide forward on the base to allow access to the back seat. The latch in the floor pan for the civy seat is there though...
You could try hooking it up the the tach buffer output that goes to the STE/ICE diagnostic port, but without knowing what it expects for the signal, who knows?
Maybe check one of the NSN databases and see if you can contact one of the suppliers for tech info. Though I must say I wound up going...
Pmramsey - do those seats tilt at all? I'm wondering how they would work in an M1009, allowing access to the back seat. What are those seats from? Did they use the stock mounting locations in the floor pan?
I really like that M101A3 bed on there! I just might have to look for a project truck...
Just a guess here, but since the output of GEN 1 is used as the ground reference for GEN 2, wouldn't shutting down GEN 1 by pulling the pigtail cause GEN 2 to stop outputting, or at least cut its output to 12v? If so, this could case the GEN 2 light to illuminate.
You can also check out the -20p and -34p TM's, as they will tell you all the part numbers and what they are used on. One note though, the M1009 uses 6 lug wheels while all the other CUCVs use 8 lug wheels.
The under dash starter relay from CUCV Electric is not the same as the Doghead mod. The CUCV Electric relay is a heavier duty replacement for the stock relay. The Doghead mod is a much *heavier* duty relay.
Couldn't a battery disconnect switch be placed on the cable that runs from the positive...
If you are interested in the upgrades, there are threads here on steering column swaps. If you are swapping the column anyway, might as well get a tilt column with the delay wipers. Just be sure to get the delay module that is attached at the lower end of the column. The connections should be...
I bought an M1009 last October, and have already received at least two e-mail and one snail-mail notice regarding the CARB rules, etc. My understanding is that they don't really apply to the CUCVs, so I'm not too worried about it. If I had something like an M35, then I'd be worried.
I'm pretty sure these were all no-frills trucks, so just simple on / off low / high. Wiper delays can be added, and is often done when swapping in a tilt steering column.
If someone is going to be out at Nellis AFB before the 7/31/12 auction cycle, I'd appreciate it if they could look at an item for me.
Thanks in advance!
Don't know if this is related, but there was a thread on here not long ago about CUCVs shaking above 40 mph or so, and it was traced to out of balance rear brake drums. Might be something to look at while checking the rear brakes.
That trailer looks great! I would love to find one in my area, but so far I have only found trailers that were either more rust than trailer or were made of gold.
Great find!
A couple of things:
1) You mention that this is to be used for driving the family around. One thing to keep in mind is that these trucks only have the safety equipment available at the time they were built. So, no ABS, no air bags, no traction control, no 3-point seat belts for the back seat...
