I drove mine out the 50 miles back to my house. As close to legally as I could. I called and got insurance on it as soon as I won the bid. After that I carried the auction paperwork to pick up the truck. I drove off the lot with insurance paper work in hand and the paperwork that said I won. I...
I have one I bought form the rear - Its mainly for the mud and snow and rocks on occassion . One thing about the rear is in my opinion you drive open til your stuck then flip the switch and back up -running the snow anyways . The front in the snow would put you in a ditch . I will post up pic's...
The test drive was good - It always makes you think when you have something wierd happen like it will not turn left at all- then fix it and your almost waiting to see if it does it again. It steers better than it ever has to me . No stiff feeling after a left turn . Were good.
It steers nice right and left now . One last thing stabbing the bearing on the bottom when I slid the worm gear in one ball bearing dropped down inside the horn plug area - I heard it -you can just barely see any of it - Used a magnet to fish it out and reset it in there and everything was happy...
Finally got the devel back together - The horn wire was such a pain , I tried for more than 2 hours to fish it thru finally it got tangled and I cut the little begger , The horn will be on the dash . here's a few picks of trying to string it all up
I took a video showing how much effort to turn the pucks - But my camera seems to not want to load it to the puter-On another note there are 2 styles of pucks there are I assume the old version one piece races all on one - and 2 piece where the race seperates from the end of the puck . I tried...
Time has been skim here - Work is eating all the time -Labor day is getting close. I got the damaged puck off and started looking at the amount of pre load on the jam nuts , and its a little inconclusive so far . First off its hard to hold the other side and tighten the nut . I have 2 extra...
Yep they are expensive but man they look good. An upcoming alternative might be the 7 ton LMTV wheels from the Marine Corps. They are thicker and heavier with larger bolts that hold the two halves together. I already have 5 of them and man are they massive. Anyway my understanding is that there...
I am in Thailand right now and haven't seen anything like that over here. So they are probably all rusted out and forgotten about over here. So you won't be finding anymore from here. Get it and enjoy the history of it.
Got the box completly off the other puck is all nicked up - the bearing seems to be nice and free , I will check the other 2 boxes and see how the pre load feels on those . Its kinda like setting pre load on a pinion bearing , I will do it by feel .
My truck is a 64 on a 76 blazer frame - Last build up had a 454 full roller aluminum heads -with 100 shot of nitrous , th-400 k case 2500 stall converter with a 3 speed stak 2.4-1 4.3-1 gear low ranges , 4:56 gears and arbs front and back . I have had the truck in the snow mainly , but Have a...
I can tell you the box seems small from what I have seen . I think an assist unit would sell like hot cakes . Thanks for the info on it . I am used to Gas motor rigs .
here's a pic of the rig - I am not real familiar with all the designations . I am posting this info as a friend To Shannon as he is out to sea right now .
I will assign a mechanical # to that question monday . I am pretty sure there pre-loaded a bit -Just how much is a good question . I am pretty confident that the one I am working on had been tampered with by what I am seeing so far . It always had a tight sensation turning left and coming back ...
