Official 2014 SS Georgia Rally Info SSGR14 thread

Do we want to rent handhelds BB radios again? We can also get a base station with a hard antenna that should give better range if needs be.

    Can't mod the driver

Going off roading with more experienced folks is a good idea. Go gently and carefully and learn the capabilities. Also, running these big trucks full speed into thick mud can break your front suspension. Big tires will increase this likelihood.

    can a f250 pull a stuck m35 deuce and a half out?

How does it go, stuck to the hubs is twice the weight in force. Stuck to the fenders is 3 times the weight?

How have your cargo covers held up at "highway" speed?

Been to PA and back from Ga twice and a few regional trips a state away, all at highway speeds on 1100s. No issues so far.

    S-250 Shelter Power Receptical Question

208 made from two of the three phases (120 vac phase to ground) of a three phase system will power most items that will run off of 240 volt from single phase systems. That was the angle I was driving at. Now if the device really needs all three phases, then yeah, residential power won't work. I...

    S-250 Shelter Power Receptical Question

Why not go with 240? Some of the 208 three phase gear may work with 240 VAC ( 2 phases).

    S-250 Shelter Power Receptical Question

I use pin and sleeve connectors for my 60 amp gear at work in my data center under floor areas. The pin and sleeve suture is rated for up to 125 amps on the large stuff and is quite good. Hubbel, Levittown and other electrical supply manufacturers make this stuff. You should be able to search...

    S-250 Shelter Power Receptical Question

I think those are IEC 309 type pin and sleeve connectors. 5 pins for here phases plus ground and neutral. They should be a standard type in face and come in a lot of splash and water proof versions.

    24v generator

Well, the alternator COULD charge the batteries, but you have to look at the charging rate you want. What is your draw for standard operational use? You'll have peak draw and then average draw and then minor draw. For camping you could be running anything from a fridge to AC to inverters to...

    Tire Report, G177s

MY G177s came off a 900 series 5 ton in Army Service. I wonder if they're All position or not. Need to check.

    Odd Transfercase/Front Axle behavior/noise.

Hmm, looks like we need to open it back up again and flip it around. Darn it.

    Odd Transfercase/Front Axle behavior/noise.

Hmm is the deeper part of the piston cup supposed to go out wards or inwards? I started to install it deeper part outwards and that seemed like it should not have enough clearance of the cap.

    Odd Transfercase/Front Axle behavior/noise.

Disassembly and cleaning the piston seemed to help substantially. A quick hone, wipe down, inspection of the seal and light coat of grease and now, no clanking sound. There was a missing washer which I replaced and one of the two copper rings was not present but I could detect no leaks when the...

    Odd Transfercase/Front Axle behavior/noise.

So my neighbor has a newish deuce that was taken out for a bit of a spin in the snow and ice this week, it wasn't driven much and he's still getting to know how to use some of the features. When he was putting it to bed, using the air-shift he noticed a very severe clanking coming from the...

    Tire Report, G177s

If I recall I'm running 80psi on the fronts and 65psi on the rear. I was running about that on the 1100x20 singles for NDT's based on Bjorn's advice from years ago when he switched to Singles on the CraneTruck. That worked well for me on long hauls. I'll be switching the caster plate/shim thing...
