Understand.
I have a Solargizer on mine, was there when I bought it, and it's in the same place, on the cowl just in front of the pass side windshield.
I would like to know as well.
I have heard, but not sure how reliable it is that the only 5-ton axles to have lockers were from USMC trucks, but again, not sure what to look for
Just wanted to say your are correct sir. The gp's I pulled out were indeed AC Delco 13G's with the small terminal ends. Here is what they looked like, after pulling them out, I cleaned the soot off of them.
They didn't look bad, but looks are deceiving.
Put 12v across them using a battery...
You are correct sir. Going the Historic Plate route is not for everybody. Not sure how much and if and how they would actually enforce that, but it is written as such.
You could try that but if you ever get pulled over for whatever reason, not sure what would happen, so I wouldn't suggest...
I have come to the realization that my M1009 is a dog or was a dog in a past life.
Don't get me wrong, it is a great truck, reliable and durable, but it likes to mark it's territory by leaking fluids everywhere.
I know it is a 30+ year old truck, and I can say firsthand that not too many things...
That can be a slippery slope with too many legal ramifications I believe. In a sense, you are really falsifying records to a degree. I think the only type of MV's you could get away with this is the shop trucks and expandable vans, especially if you mod them for RV use, but again, not sure...
Test using:
Google Chrome
iMac using OsX Yosemite 10.10.5
File size is 5312x2988 pixels (average about 4 MB each)
uploaded fine, but took a little long, most likely due to the size.
When reduced by 50% using Preview app (Mac)
upload time was reduced by about 30 seconds
file size is about...
This why so many people are bobbing their deuces and 5-tons, another way around the BS I guess. Either that or move to Nevada or Arizona.
Edit:
They are the CARB, they know whats best for everybody, so THEY say
It is applicable when using MV's for Commercial, if I read it correctly, but you may be correct on the 14,000 and lower weight exemption.

A Class A CDL will help ease any worries for you. Never asked what year your 923 was, if it isn't more than 30 years old, it wouldn't even qualify for Historic.
I'm not too sure on the mods and Historic, I believe it is only the age, and not if the vehicle is period correct, but not 100% sure...
Nice find, good luck on the paint job/bodywork.
FYI, even though the truck is good condition, check the upper corners of the tailgate, they always seem to crack the sheet metal around there. I only mention this since you are prepping it for paint.
Keep us updated
Okay, not sure if my pics are going to be any better than what USAFSS-ColdWarrior has already posted.
All my sheet metal and tool boxes are mounted, so I can't get a good clean overhead pic for you, sorry, not going to take all that stuff off at this time.
I think I got all these in the right...
Completely understand and fully agree with you. It would be nice if California, like some other states made it easier to discern vehicles better than that chart Like this:
In some States, it is simply put as vehicles weighing 26,000 pounds or less only require what California calls a Class C...
I can try to take some of my 818 tomorrow, got no pressing plans for the daytime.
Before I take them, is there anything in particular or just a better visual than what the schematics offer?
Also, just in case. Mine has 2 55-gallons tanks, is yours the same, since you said the tanks were...
I caught this thread a little behind but I would like to throw my 2¢ in, if I may.
Now I know this is a hot topic for those wanting to own and god forbid actually drive a 5-ton in California, but there is some information that is not correct and some that is.The determining factor is going to...
I know that "Those Military Guys" are located in Rancho Cucamonga, not sure how close that is to you, but they are very familiar with 2.5 & 5-tons.
I know one of the guys who woke there and it seems that they really take pride in their work. Don't know how they are on price for shop work...
Funny, I know that smell.
I can be blindfolded and transported 3 states away and I will always know if I am in a Harbor Freight store. You can smell the lead in the air.
