Oh yea and you will need a clutch line up tool to install your clutch on the new engine. The 5ton clutch is different. You will also have to reclock the new starter, Or reuse your old one. The hole is on the wrong side.
Jesse,
You will need to get a new oil pan gasket. And a 2x2 foot sheet of gasket material. You will also have to reuse the oil pickup tubes for the oil pan from your original engine. The oil pan is on backwards. You will also have to move the dipstick to the forward position. The gasket...
Are you getting black smoke a full throttle? If you your turbo waste gate it probally sticking open and limiting power at higher engine speeds. You can also check gov settings by slowly revving the engine in netural. If the engine will speed up to at least 2700 then you gopv is set correctly...
You wouldn't belive the things you can use a M35 for. Just this weekend i found a new use for mine. I needed to get on the roof and couldn't find my ladder (kids geese!) . So i parked the truck next to the house and climbed up on the cab then steped onto the roof. Worked out great.
Mine is red, Or used to be red it's faded and flaked off. Another M37 at the museum also has a red engine block. We started repainting parts on the engine as we pulled them off and repaired/replaced them. I hope we arn't using the wrong color!
Jesse, It sure looks like a "C" turbo. Notice the adaptor at the back of the turbo. This is to mate up with the 5ton exaust pipe. This turbo will proude less air flow and boost than the one you have now. Got any better pics?
Jesse, In my opinion you have the best turbo for your set up. It is the closest mapped turbo for these engines. And you should be able to increase your fuel rate enough to really make the truck pull at higher elevations. The LDS turbo is much larger. And works quite well. I have one one my...
TM, 27PSI is pretty impressive! What elevation do you live at?
Jesse, I'd like to know what temps and boost you get with your turbo. Espacily when pulling at higher elevations. It would help alot with my research
My goal with boring and porting the casings is to increase flow. More CFM's. This helps lower EGT's. The more air flow the more fuel can be added. Boost is controlled by heat. The more fuel the faster the turbo will spin. To a point. Untill it starts to cavatate. My figures are based soley on...
The LDS turbo with the waste gate won't give you anymore boost pressure than a D will. When the pressure gets to a set point the wastegate wil open and slow the turbo. The advantage of this turbo is it will produce more boost at lower engine speeds. Allowing you to hold a gear longer before a...
My 1028 has the NP205 iron transfercase. Where the 1008 a had came with the NP208. My 1028 also has the limited slip diff up front. But the 1008 had a open front diff. They both have the overload rear spring. The 1028 has some wiring that goes to the bed. I assume to power the shelter. I...
Heavysteven, What would you use the strap wrench for?
When chaning the primary fuel filter. It makes it much eaiser if you remove the bolts holding the bracket to the frame. Then put the bracket under the top of the frame. Then reinstall the bolts. This drops the filter about 1/2 inch away...
How many hours are on your engine? Even though it runs great is the compression low? Injectors clean? If they are not spraying right, the fuel may puddle on top of the pistons and not burn. And water in the fuel? drain the filters and see. Also it could be as simple as you got a bad batch of...
After hurricane IKE mine was woth it's weight in gold! We were the only ones with enough power to run the central A/C. Other than listening to it run outside, it made life pretty much normal untill services came back on line. Being prepaired sure keeps the misriability factor low when it gets ugly!
