Would a mod please move this to the 5 ton forum now. It would seem to be more pertinent there now that it is no longer an emergency. Some decent info here I believe.
No, scratch that. I'm not taking this wrecker out of town again until I've replaced all the studs that I haven't replaced. I can't go through this again.
Mkcoen, I can make another trip out to get your truck, but it'll cost more because I no longer have a previous engagement there. Only reason I came home was because the government is closed until Tuesday. I made an appointment for Tuesday morning just in case.
Ok guys, I got home at 3:43 am last night , shut the truck down and passed out. I just got up. It looks like what caused the failure is that the lugs were over tightened. 7 of ten of them showed signs that they were cracked halfway through for a long time. I was able to do all the repair without...
Yep, just got studs and lug nuts at a local truck shop and am about to begin the repair. Bent the brake chamber pretty bad with the chain but nothing that can't be fixed.
I was able to chain the axle up to the crossmember, just arrived at my destination. Will commence repair tomorrow. Thank you sincerely to all who have responded and helped in this thread and otherwise.
Awesome. I'm going to try and tie this axle up to the crossmember and limp the 14 miles or so to where I need to go. Will pass out and get parts in the morning god willing.
Alright I just was able to get the axle up off the ground. I do have ctis, which is now disabled until I get a new hub. Wasn't sure about chaining to x member for fear of bending it. May do that though if I can't get studs here soon. I only have one block now, my other one just split into three...
No space between wrecker bed and truck frame for chain. What size is the hub nut? I may have someone who can bring me some tools but I need to know socket size.
I'm apparently close enough to some town that I have 3G now. The 923 I'm towing is not mine and I can't get ahold of he owner, so really don't want to remove his hub, also I'm not sure if I have the tools to remove the hub anyway. What size is the hub nut?
Do what Welldigger said and ditch the cork pieces. Just use good grey rtv silicone. I did all four of my rears recently and used rtv, no leaks now as of yet. Already put over 1000 miles on the truck since. And as the others said, either have two replacement wheel cylinders on hand, or have...
