Symbol on door of some MVs

The inverted vee was a designator for friendly force equipment so we wouldn't fire on our own guys. That worked 'til the bad guys figured it out and started putting it on their stuff. Currently, "chill plates" are used which give a dark section when viewed through IR gear.

    Glad I bought a turbo

Not me. I looked at them and wondered what the spool-up and boost was like. The smaller the turbine scroll, the faster and sooner the turbo comes in. Compare a whistler and non-whistler turbo and you'll see that the whistler looks real undersized for the size of the engine. Might not be that big...

    Glad I bought a turbo

True, the two go hand in hand. Although I might exchange "fuel economy" for "fuel efficiency". The more air--the more thorough the combustion; the more fuel per charge burned--the more power or alternately, the less fuel needed to maintain a given power level as generated by a less efficient...

    3..2..1..Eureka!

Don't hurt yourself Jason. The first tool is just a grade 8 1/2"NF bolt about 5" long with the head cut off. It screws into one of the flywheel bolt holes and allows you to slide the flywheel far enough out of the bellhousing to get a good grip on it. Best to grab it with a hoist and lower it...

Looking for Exide 6TL 's or equivalent in Atlanta area

RE: Re: RE: Looking for Exide 6TL I've had great luck with the group 31 w/ 1,000 CCA. Same size as most light truck/automotive batteries with lots of cranking power for all the diesels I've ever owned.

    3..2..1..Eureka!

Yeah Nick, rear main... the one that hides under the flywheel.

    Alphaheaven and Jim Henry

Can only speak for my dealings with Alfaheaven. Found him to be helpful and informative. Could have made a few extra bucks off of me but instead, talked me out of a purchase that he said I wouldn't benefit from (later found out just how right he was). How many sellers would do that?

    Glad I bought a turbo

Simple fact of life... "whistler" turbos build power; non-whistlers clean up emissions. That's the way they were designed and applied.

    Explain Multifuel

We had Multifuelers in Nam and the motorpools quickly put out a bulletin that said that gasoline was an emergency, get out of harm's way alternative only; because of the lack of lubricity for the injection pump. Their advice was to add motor oil to a tankful of gasoline to try to keep the IP...

    WD40 Cure???

WD40 isn't all it's cracked up to be. It's a moisture grabber so it'll actually form a thin water layer and rust the parts it's supposed to be protecting. On metal, Kroil is what we've gone to with far better results. For long term storage of machined surfaces, a coating of any of the spray-on...

    3..2..1..Eureka!

Bjorn, back on the road again. To all that lent a hand; Thanks for the part nos. and the encouragement. Bjorn departed my driveway at 8:40A; said he'd just circle the block if anything went wrong... haven't seen him come trudging back so I guess we did it right the first time. Also a good...

    3..2..1..Eureka!

Well... Bjorn's smiling again. The cranetruck is idling away in my driveway with no evidence of earlier woes. Will let him tell all the gory details and will post some pictures later.

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: more baby HEMTT pics Oops... sorry, that last post was from me. Cranetruck is sharing my computer while he's in town and I forgot to log him off and me on.

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: more baby HEMTT pics Yeah I agree. HEMTTs use a break down jibboom crane with a mil spec "boat winch" and they probably do that because a number of other ideas didn't pan out in the field. Simplicity is everything in my book; and less moving parts means less to go wrong, get broken, get...

Project Baby Hemmt - FOR LEONARD

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: more baby HEMTT pics Coming along in between everything else they're throwing my direction. Walkways are in position and being marked for holddown bolts. Spare tire carrier is on the pass side walkway ready to have bolt holes drilled. After Rizzo pointed out that my spare...

    3..2..1..Eureka!

Bjorn, Good that you'll be getting over the hill before too late in the holiday weekend. Otherwise the drive west can be a big pain. If you'll give me the dimensions and fitting types I can have a hydraulic hose made up and waiting for you. Otherwise it'll be Tuesday before the shops open up...

    3..2..1..Eureka!

You'll fly like the wind now, Bjorn. The deuce will probably feel like a sports car. Steepest grades will be west of Reno, Nev.(4498' elev.) into Truckee, Calif.(5899' elev.), then west out of Truckee up the Donner Summit (7K' elev.) Everything else will be pretty much downhill into Sacramento...

    12 Volt power

You'll need to think about a third 12v battery in it's own 12v system. Then you can get a lower amperage 24v to 12v converter that's capable of charging a 12v battery; you should be able to power off of the individual 12v battery and still have the 24v system intact. That way the converter isn't...

    Air brakes

Should be able to get air pots from a later front axle of the same type that'll bolt in. S-cam is what everything has gone to and parts are all over the place. Air brake components either work or they don't; no user adjustments or fixes but everything is cheap enough that you just swap out bad...
