On a side note, I now have in the pole barn all 3 examples of austin-western cranes. M108, M62, and M819. Think doghead will notice if I ship the M108 to him instead of the M819? Maybe I could send Gimpys M62 along also!
Couldn't stay long friday evening. Still got to drive the M819, and...
Here's some pics. Found this road train in my driveway last night. Measured out at 74 ft long. Each truck is 33,000lbs, 4500lbs for NHC 250 in can, 1500lbs for the M105, and 1500lbs in tools, for a grand total of 73,500lbs. Gimp said he was running 40-50mph. Here's some pics!

Just got back from kipman's, so here's an update.
Gimpy's wrecker appears to have a seized main jornual bearing, causing a broken crankshaft. He had an engine in a can about 30 miles away at oilcans(the infamous somersaulting can.) Went and brought it to kipmans, and found out that it is a 5...
Same guy I posted about 5 years ago. Inventory is a little different, and prices are high for trucks that have been sitting. Maybe someone can talk him down and get a good truck.
I'll be down after work friday to check out the all the damage. I'm sure I'll be chatting to you guys before then, find out if anything is needed. Sounds like the 819 is going to tow the M62 home, not the other way around!
Yea, it's a tight fit there. Don't know how much room the firebed leaves. I would remove the parking brake. The collar may be held on by a bolt and washer instead of a set screw. Save the oil line and fittings, they are to the transfer PTO. Just plug the lower hole.
I was even able to get an impact on them from the bottom. Have to have just the right length extension and angle. Putting the transmission in 1st gear does a nice job of locking the shaft. Make sure the engine stop is out, just in cast your super strong and can spin the engine over.
Using a gasser transmission would give you a deeper 1st gear(7.00/1), and closer shifts. Lack of overdrive would bring the rpms back up. Having driven a gasser, they shift nicer and rpms are much better between shifts.
The 4.90 set, with a gasser tranny, would give you 61mph at 2500rpm...
Can't even get the quote right... I gotta do it all.
Tommy: Hey, these MnM's have a thin shell coating.
Richard: Your head has a thick shell coating.
Tommy: Well, YOUR head has a thick...uh...er...SHUTTUP, RICHARD!!
A little thing to help put the tranny in...
The end of the splines on the input shaft are squared off. If you take a grinding wheel or cut-off wheel and V or round the front edge of the splines over, it will start into the clutch plate much easier. Works on any manual transmission with large...
I also found a complete yellow M108 near Cleveland, off of route 20. Went to the door to ask about it and the guy says it's not for sale. I ask about parts off it and he says no. So as I'm walking away, I said, "that was easy enough". Guy comes tearing out the door saying "What!?", and...
