Back somewhere around the early 90's my M1008's transfer case went belly up and I had to change it out with a surplus unit. My Dad who was an old farm boy suggested that I put 90wt gear oil in place of the tranny fluid. I been running that ever since. Any concerns on doing this?
Heres my shop van. Got it back in the late 80's when you would actually go to the DRMO on base and paddle bid on the trucks. Got this one at Barstow. Only had 157 miles on it. Unfortunately it was driven so little that the IP was clogged and I had to get a replacement.
I like the camo covers but in my climate they have to breath. I'm afraid that after an hout on the road my back would be soaked with sweat. Thinkin about havin' a neighbor sew up a set made out of breathable cotton blend.
Finally got around to changing my shocks. Boy, the old ones seemed like they had nothing in them. Was going to do the stabilizer at the same time but 4 wheel parts gave me the wrong model. So I'll wait till I get back to LA and swap it out.
Good thing I'm retired. After I fix up the M43, I've got my 69 Road Runner to restore, not to mention the Toyota Land Cruiser and keeping the M35's goin'. Also have to build another rifle when my barrel comes in. And we can forget all the honey-do's. If I had to work, don't think I would have...
I've noticed that everyone when thyt change the batteries to civilan that they reuse the same holder. I really don't like the military holder with cici batteries. I move the hold down posts in to the next threaded hole and made a small cross bracket. I feel its much neater and easier to work...
Thanks for the input. Seems like it is worth it. I'll probably go ahead and fix the little things that need fixin'. Have a leak in the brake system and seal in the rear axle needs to be replaced.
I have had this M43 for probably 25+ years. In fact it was my first military vehicle. When I got it the previous owner had gutted the interior, taking out the front seats and removed everything in the back. I'm talking completely stripped. The person had also cut the roof to raise it for...
For stuff like this, preperation is everything. I did mine in Herculiner came out fine. But I wire brushed the entire surface and removed all the rust.
