The fender extension should be pretty easy to beat back out. Its just flat round steel. no compound curves or anything like that to worry about.

If you can go do a preview, do it. If you think the truck is road worthy and can afford to have it break down inrout to home, I say drive it. But alot here will tell you to trailer it home so you can do a "complete" ckeck out at home. Top on the list for driving it home is brakes.

The historical stuff and the static displays are probably ok to take pics of. I have done it. But anything else and you have to be stealthy about it and even then I get really nervous about it.
The only way I can see it arc is if you are putting it in at an angle where you're getting the center pin (or the pos.pin on a 2 pin) to close to the outside of the slave recepticle on the truck. As if holding the cable end and trying to look inside it while your attaching it to make sure...
