you guys that are mounting rings should also get the top plate for the back of the cab where the hard top would normall attach. it helps that area as well.
if they service rockwell's then they should be able to get them but there isn't any reason not to call 1 of 10 surplus guys and have them on hand when you show up.
BTW where are you guys getting the sockets to get the bearing nuts off?
as to your second question there is no direct relationship.
turbo rpm is more directly related to fueling in our case. there is a day and night difference between 2000rpms and light throttle and 2000rpms and wide open up a hill under full load and boost.
only the 10 ton M123 tractors came with drag line winch for pulling a load onto the trailer.
818 is cummins motor
m54 or other 5 ton tractor has either a multi motor or mack motor.
I have the same gauge in my 818. call westach and they will sell you the new sensor. you can get it in a clamp on or screw in. those two leads on the gauge use a slid on connector that is very snug and will not come off.
freeze plugs that I drive into the engine blocks go it with a moderate swing from a 3lb hammer. I'd say you want at least .002 of interference fit at 60deg F. yours can be a bit looser bc your not sealing water at 16psi over a 2sq in area.
worst case scenario:
pull the turbo from the truck and see if the oil is coming from the turbo or if it's coming from the manifold/motor. this takes about an hour at the most and will confirm the problem without doubt.
you could also pull the air inlet hose on the turbo but it may or may not...
I just replaced a wheel cylinder on the 818 and found about 3 table spoons of rust in the bottom of that old one. I suspect they all have that in them. in time I'll rebuild them all. I've done all the rubber flex hoses already.
