The deuce frame width is a standard 34" I believe. The same as a GM or IHC truck. I had planned on putting the running gear from my old IHC 1800 series under my 1954 REO deuce. The cab needs some serious work though, so have put that off for now.
I wished I had kept mine ! I just threw them away after reading them. I also really wished I had kept all my old comic books too ! Who knew they would be worth anything today !
You got that right ! I've personally seen a 5/8" cable let go and it was not funny ! I was winching out a 160 ft Western Red Cedar with my IHC TD18 when the line snapped. The shackle hit the cab like "Thor's Hammer" !!!!
I still remember my father running up to see if I was alright. I had...
I replaced the core 8 years ago. It was an original replacement by "Moraine" . Now they say it is no longer available. I guess it cost to much money to make it with all that copper. My core cost almost $500.00 then. Now who knows how much they would charge for a solid copper radiator.
I would love to get a 5 ton but I'm sure the wife would divorce me if I did. After all I spent all of last summer getting rid of all my trucks and tractors and a few cars. I only kept the Air-Force Deuce and one 1954 REO Deuce. Though I REALLY REALLY wished I could have kept the 1944 Marine M5...
Our Air-Force deuces have a better system with the two air-packs. You can loose a whole system and still have brakes. The only advantage of his system is the hydraulic pressure assist, but ours still reaches over 800 PSI with the air system. You don't want or need anything more then that unless...
The "cork" is used to seal the "keyway" on the spindle, keeping differential fluid from entering the wheel bearings. You can use a good silicone, but the cork or a similar material is best.
I suggest you follow Dogheads advice here. The reason is the fluids are completely different base materials and they "do not mix !" . They actually will damage the seals from either system. DOT 3 to DOT 5 or DOT 5 to DOT 3. Once the seals absorb the fluid they never will be free of it. That is...
I would never tell anyone who already had a winch mounted to remove it for a electric winch.
I always carry the correct size rigging never said to carry larger. Also when working alongside the engine and transmission, it is a pain to deal with the winch driveline in the way. I just drop it to...
The good thing is you didn't kill yourself or anyone else as you learned this lesson. Now you too can give sage advice to others through your experience. Of course they will probably ignore it as you did. ;-) Then you just pray they don't get hurt.
By the way. Your rig is looking real good !
