Your so lucky to not have to deal with emissions ! In my opinion it is just a money maker for the county and really doesn't do anything for pollution control. Especially with all the newer cars and trucks coming out with the emissions integral to engine performance. You cannot remove them and...
You can disassemble the horn and clean it up. There is a metal "flap" that can get real cruddy. That is what makes the sound wave. I cleaned mine up and tried it out in the basement with just my shop air. The wife was "NOT" happy !!!
Also the electric "solenoid" can get sticky. Try flushing some...
Those manifolds are actually pretty good flowing if you remove the smog tubes and install brass plugs. I don't know what the emission laws are like your way but up here in Washington if the vehicle is over 25 years old they no longer test for emissions. I'm not saying to do it, just saying...
It's the cam and valves. I will not rev much past 3,000 rpm. Just like the old Chevy 235 engine. I once had a cam reground for my 54 Chevy truck and that truck became a beast ! I'm sure if anyone wanted to make there old gasser go faster they could get a cam grinder to put on a modern profile on...
I bought my springs from a manufacture who makes them here in the good ole U.S of A. As far as "my" whining you got to be kidding ! If any one says anything about your ideas you go bat$hit crazy on them ! I gave you perfectly logical reasons for my diagnostics while you just gave name calling...
Those make good "bogie bushings" removers ! When I was working at IHC in the 1970's we had a 100 ton press. I had to replace the suspension (bogie) walking beam bushings in a 80,000 Ibs dump truck. It took the full 100 tons plus the torch to get that one bushing out ! When it finally came free...
I was hitting it alright ! and heating it with the torch before it finally came off. It was on there but good ! After looking at the gear once it was off I could see small gouge marks on the shaft and gear. I believe who ever originally installed it didn't use any assembly lube and just rammed...
Measuring it will not tell you that the springs are shot, but knowing that the frame is OK will let you go on and troubleshoot the real problem. But go ahead and measure the crap out of it and then tell us how you diagnosed all the problems out of this truck. Either that or stop whining about...
Your shock could be damaged. I've seen that many times. They do get bent and sometimes the pistons do get jammed up inside the tube. A quick way of checking is just remove the bottom shock bolts all around the truck and see how it sets. You also could just have bad springs or bushings or both...
Are you saying the truck will not physically move ? Or are you saying the truck is "slow" ? The old gasser engines actually have more power then the multifuel engines but they get real crappy mileage. They also have a tendency to overheat when driven for any length of time, especially going up...
Valence, you might have a busted fitting. Do you have access to a sandblaster ? If not then clean that fitting up as best you can and inspect it with a magnifying glass for any hair-line cracks. Busted fittings are quite common, that's why at work we where told to always replace them. Better...
I've been salvaging transmissions parts I have here lately and the countershaft gears have all taken my 15 ton press to remove. Actually I had to put my 20 ton jack in to get one off, and it started to bend my press top plate before it finally came free ! That was from a 1954 REO truck and I'm...
Your injection pump and injectors will not like it ! Those microscopic metal particles will act like sandblast media blowing through your injection lines at 3,000 PSI .
Quite often the problem is a shifted axle due to the spring bolt wearing. You can see the frame is out but why is it out ? When a frame shop puts your rig in the jig to check it they support it. So then the axle is out of play. They then can determine that the frame itself is fine and then can...
These Spicer transmissions are about as simple as you can get. Unlike modern manual transmissions which require a whole box full of special tools to repair. All you need is a 9/16" socket or wrench, a 3/4" socket, a 1.5" socket, a hammer, snap-ring pliers, and side cutters to remove the cotter...
OK the long and short of it is, It's OK to disable the FDC and in fact it prevents a lot of problems from developing if you do. You can still run any fuel the Multi-fuel engine is capable of running, which includes gasoline ( when cut with the proper amount of oil) . The only engine that I know...
They did. We had a discussion last year (?) about the proper gear oil. I ended up calling "Tremec" who bought out Spicer and talked with an engineer about it. According to him the "modern" oils are OK for the manual transmissions. He did recommend a 50W or higher though.
