Need a hand from you guys, got a rebuilt 1961 Spencer Stafford Loadcraft M146 trailer and nowhere on it is the Army registration number. Carnac could not help me with the VIN backtrace. Does anyone that has a similar era trailer know what their USA number is? Might be 7E1234 format. I want...
Get a sharp small chisel (1/4" wide) and insert into the end of the screw slot at 45 deg angle and give it a couple whacks. There are also impact screwdrivers that might work for this. If you think getting these 1/4-20 screws out is tough, wait 'till you try to pull the rear hub!
Hey, we all have to start somewhere. When I got my first M38A1 Jeep back in '80, it had a M38 oil dipstick in it. I put 10 quarts of oil in it before it showed full. I wondered why it started smoking like a freight train. There was no internet to ask anyone back then.
Yes for sure that is the Cat transmission. It is a rebuild, from Ft Polk. My 916 has one of those in it and it works very well. Those things are VERY heavy, like close to a ton.
Welcome, that truck should make a great addition to your field. And the missing parts are super easy to come by. And can ship in a flat rate box, as opposed to just about any other part on a 5 ton! Get some photos for us and then paint her up and let's see her then too.
A M715 is a great choice for a farm/ranch truck. I have never heard of anyone plowing with one, though. Try to find a winch equipped one. I have used the winch for pulling stumps and the like, and you can put a useful gin pole set up on the front and lift around 1000 lbs. The truck has great...
I believe your truck is an Air Force deuce (Vin 10-XXXXX) and will have the split brake system with two boosters. Lots of threads here on dealing with that system.
Turn up your alternator on the little screw you located until you get 28 volts with the engine running. If the alternator won't...
Navy/USMC only, heavy duty, 8.25-20 tires ($$$$), all IHC drivetrain, Hendrickson rear suspension, open and closed cabs. Played a big part in the Pacific landings, you see them in all the war photos.
It would be extremely difficult to disassemble the reduction unit while still in the truck. Try this, get the truck moving about 5 mph and put the lever in high. Makes a huge bang but it unsticks mine every time.
If they agreed to give you a normal SF-97, get them to re-do it. You will have to send that one back. Was just a clerical error, no sense in causing yourself huge grief by accepting it.
Marcus and Doghead are right on - Go get checked out medically and be on the alert for delayed symptoms. Happened to me. And get lawyered up too!
I bought a immaculate M1031 that had been hit hard in the same place. The frame was bent under the back of the cab on the right side. The...
