Do you guys remember that article in Army Motors or Military Vehicles years ago about the auction of a potato farm in upstate MI? They had dozens of hydramatic GMCs and I bet this is one of them. They were all well maintained and barn kept. The black painted number clues me in to this.
Sounds like the transformer/rectifier box attached to the alt has smoked. I would isolate it by disconnecting all the wires going in and out of it and see if the 12 volt part of the alternator is functioning. If so, possibly only the transformer rectifier needs to be replaced. I believe the...
The problem is your laser beam LED headlights burning the retinas of the other drivers and confusing them. LOL Even in the photo it is hard to look at the headlight. Trailer turned out perfect. I can only haul one of something at a time with my 25 ton lowboy.
The data plate in the cab that is all the way to the right on the dash with "GMC" in stylized letters will have the stamped serial number. The number you mentioned is the contract number and not the VIN/serial number.
The male connectors that are crimped to the wire. The 1 to 1 and 2 to 1 connectors are found inside the Douglas metal shells and do not go bad with age. The 1 to 1 resembles a butt connector.
Welcome to the site. The truck's stamped serial number found on the data plate and frame is what is used as the VIN. Some states require the use of a motor number as a VIN, which is stamped on a data plate on the block and bell housing. It will read 302-XXXXX. The fire dept that sold this...
Burr Ferry. I like the upper route to Polk/Pineville as well. Everyone seems to go up through Kinder. You can't go wrong on a M101 even with peeling paint.
If you are whining about some oil leaks on your deuce, the CUCV trucks are really gonna pee in your Cheerios. Expect reoccuring maintenance on the glow plug system, alternators, starter, front axle, and steering column controls. Most important aspect of picking a good 1009 in my opinion is...
This trailer is interesting but can you imagine actually using it? Coming towards shore, the front axle hits ground and the DUKW slows while it claws away to pull up on the shoreline. Meanwhile the trailer is still afloat and swings around and smacks the duck in the stern corner. This would...
The Marines used the TSC series HF radios, not the 142. Google GRC-142 to learn all about your "Ratt Rig" shelter. It looks to be in good condition. A ham radio guy would want it as is to build a mobile "shack". A mil radio collector would want it to build up a GRC-142. An aluminum...
NASA used lots of military vehicles over the years. Here at Johnson Space Center in Houston, they had 3 ea WWII C-2 wrecking lowboy trailers, one of which ended up with me. They also have a small fleet of tactical LOX tube semitrailers from the Air Force missile days. Kennedy had several M113...
Welcome to the site. Yes indeed the M38A1 had a hardtop kit, also known as arctic enclosure. The doors are supposed to be wood. If you do not want it, place an ad over at G503.com and someone will buy it, as they are in demand by Jeep collectors.
I'm of the opinion the 915/916/920 cabs are CCC's own design. The International Paystar cabs (also used on other models) are really close, but the doors have rounded edges and the wipers are on the top, both of which require different stampings.
