Looking for a Welder in Southeast Michigan

I am working on the shocks on my M38A1 and the front shock upper stud broke free from the bracket. I don't have a welder or know anybody that welds. If there is someone in the area that has a welder and can lend a hand, I would love to share some pizza, beer, and BS about MVs. If not, I can...

    M38A1 Front Spring Bracket Replacement

I took my shocks off to repaint them because they were white and it bothered me greatly. In the process I broke the welds that hold the front shock stud to the bracket. I see you can by the whole bracket assembly for about $30 but I don't know how to replace it since it appears to be riveted to...

So I guess my A1 is going 24v

I have been planning for some time to switch my jeep back to 24v but the price had held me back for a long time. This weekend I found a guy who sold me his hurricane, complete with carb, generator, voltage regulator, and distributor and the wiring harness out of his jeep. For all of the above I...

    2013 Woodward Dream Cruise

It's that time of year again and all of the old cars out out on M1. I plan on having my M38A1 out most nights this week to do some cruising and I was wondering if anybody wants to meet up and arrange a nice OD convoy going up and down woodward. I saw a couple old Jeeps out last night but nothing...

M38A1 Transmission and Transfer Case Seals

It has been a long winter hibernation for the jeep (52 M38A1) and lots of other projects have pushed it to the back burner. This year I have a new job, a house of my own, and a wife(in 4 weeks) and all of these things have conspired together to keep me off steel soldiers and away from my jeep...

    Painting the M813

Once the weather warms up I am going to have a crack at painting the M813. I already have the patterns and I think I will free hand the CARC 3 color. There is quite a bit of surface rust on the truck and I am going to use an industrial strength power washer to take off all the loose paint and...

    Michigan 5-Ton Recovery Tomorrow

It looks like I will be headed up the the UP tomorrow to recover Camp9's M813. I have about a 400 mile trip back to my house and it should be a beautiful trip through northern Michigan this time of year. Can I get some contact information along the route from Garden to Rochester in case...

    Thanks to Islandguydon

Today Don came over to my house to pick up some expired fry oil I had. Not only did he show up with some freebies for me but he also let me take his (very nice) M109 all around town. The biggest MV I had driven before today was my old '09 so needless to say it was quite the experience. Thanks...

Proper sized tires for the A1 in transit

After months of rolling around on 6x16" NDT tires my Jeep is finally going to get the correct sized tire. I am hoping the size difference will help me keep up with traffic a little better and ease some revs off the engine. I am selling the old tires tomorrow and mounting the new ones sometime...

    M38a1 Oil and Fluids

I am looking at replacing most of the fluids in my jeep before I attempt a long trip up north. My TM's all show old types of oil and lube that are not produced any more. What are most of you guys using for the engine. transmission, transfer case, and diffs. Also does anyone have a good source...

Troubleshooting some broken guages in the M38a1

Well I have had a bit of a vacation from steelsoldiers and my new jeep while I was working on med school applications but that is wrapped up now so it is time to get the jeep to its new home. I am bringing it from my brothers garage to mine for a week before it makes the 3 hour drive to our...

Fair price for having a radiator recored

I took my radiator into the shop the other day and they said it was too far gone for patching and would need a new core. They said it would run $430 and should come with a lifetime warranty. This seems a little high to me considering a brand new radiator is $550. Has anyone else had theirs...

Is this the right oil filter for a M38A1

I have been told that there is a difference between Cj3B and M38A1 oil filter assemblies so I just want to be extra careful. Is this the correct oil filter assembly for my 52 M38A1? Thanks

    Leaking Carburetor M38a1

I went out to warm up the new jeep and when the choke was on the carb was dripping a pretty steady stream of gas. Fairly quickly after I turned it off the gas stopped. Any ideas on what this is? Between that and the radiator leaking like a sieve, I had a pretty good puddle going in the driveway.

Yet another M38A1 in my sights

I just sold my dirt bike which had given me a little extra spending money for my seemingly perpetual search for a M38a1. I have located one that looks pretty good but it is 12V. I know that can pretty severely effect the value so I would probably change it back eventually. I will post some...

    Looking at a MUTT

I may be possibly looking a MUTT this Tuesday, it is an M151a1. This all came up really fast and I don't know nearly as much about the mutts as I do about the old willys. The seller said it was a half cut and that it has very minimal rust(just in the tool box). It is still 24v and has the...

    What is this truck?

I was looking at this truck for sale and it has me quite confused. It looks like it has the front end of a m35a2 but the back looks like a m818. I looked for a while to find anything similar, to no avail.

May be looking at another M38a1 - need assistance

Well it appears that my patience may finally have paid off. Based on the advise I got here I avoided the cheaper M38a1 with lots of rust and missing parts and may have found a good one. Here are the details: It reads 54,000 miles, has a new civilian soft top and decent tires. The body looks...

    Looking at a M38a1 Today

I am going to look at a '52 M38a1 today. The body is pretty rough and someone has added a roll bar and brush guard, I am guessing that it was a fire department at some point in its life. It runs and drives and I believe that it has the original drivetrain. I have had some dealings with CJs...

How to get into Military Jeeps

I just sold my CUCV which has left me without an MV and I am itching for my next fix. I am not stranger to old CJs and what to look for when buying one but I am lost on the military ones. It seems like most of the military jeeps are either big projects or fully restored and big money. I am...
