Well, the fix was actually quite simple. The #3 exhaust push tube came out of the lifter cup. What had me stumped was that the rocker moved when rotating the engine before. This was due to the push tube touching the camshaft lobe. Hopefully the cam is still fine. Got everything adjusted...
I will double check the timing before going further, but I can turn it over 360 degrees and my #3 exh. lever is still pushed tight against the push tube w/o the adjuster in, so something else is still off. Don't recall any bad noises when it ran last, but it was so long ago who knows.
I was thinking the accessory drive timing was correct as I was able to adjust 3 other cylinders just fine. I also watched the #3 exhaust rocker and at it's highest point of travel there is still no slack. Not quite sure what you mean about the threads sticking out of the lever.
I too was...
I've read the sticky on this, and following that got 3 of the cylinders adjusted easily. My problem is when trying to adjust cylinder 3. I have the pulley in the correct spot, and know I'm on cylinder 3 to adjust, but the exhaust rocker has no play. I've taken the adjustment screw completely...
I have an XM818 (or most of one), that I don't know what to do with, but have been tossing around some ideas in my melon. It's either come up with something or part it out.
I know on these trucks the brakes work when flat towed, when hooked up to the towed trucks service line. Which proves...
I had read about that, and was hoping that was all it was. When I bought it I think it had barely been used for a few years, just slowly around the former owners horse farm. Then I sat on it for a few years as well, only starting it occasionally.
When I got it out last year I drove it pretty...
I've been off the site for awhile, but have been working on my tipper trying to get it road worthy. I was able to get it driving well enough to get it out on the road some last fall. Hoping to get a few more things buttoned up so I can drive it the 250 miles from hunting camp to my house next...
How much? I'm headed to Lockbourne soon to get some 395's for mine. Not that I want to spend more money after buying tires, but I've never seen a set of troop seats for sale. PM me if you'd like.
I must not have been fully awake this morning when I typed that. You can remove the knucle w/o dissasembling the upper cap and bushing. Still need to have the lower out. Sorry about that.
You can still probably pound down through the lower dust shield onto the lower pin to help jar it loose...
Typically I go at the stuck ones w/ an air chisel to break both sides free, then rock it out w/ two pry bars. It will nick up the edges, but it doesn't really harm anything, just grind them smooth afterwards.
The pin doesn't like to let go of the bearing.
You can also remove the knuckle...
I emailed about buying one and he said his CC machine wasn't working and to send a check. I didn't like that answer so I have been sitting on buying anything for now.
Welcome from a temporarily displaced yooper. I'm from Gladstone (living in cheesehead land for now), still have camp up in Trenary and am there about every other weekend in the summer.
You don't own an xm818 do you? I saw one driving through escanaba pulling a van trailer last weekend.
Better yet take a pair of needlenose vice grips and clamp off the supply line to the air valve on the top pass side of the trans. This will kill air to the valves and put the sprag in neutral. If your problem goes away you know it's the vavles. If not it could be the sprag unit itself.
If...
The more I've looked at these pics I think its a regular m916, modified to meet the navy specs. Freighliner makes that crew cab, I've seen other trucks like it for sale. The wheel base looks really short, so i have to believe they just removed the winch and added a crew cab.
Look at where...
Found these pics and thought they were interesting. Looks like an M916a? with a crew cab.
Pretty cool none the less.
Here is the site: Jesse Jernigan Truck Pictures
An M916 (AM General) will top out at 55mph unless you have the rare USMC version that Soni has.
You can put 16x20's (53" tall) and get more speed, but I think it will top out around 69-70mph. That and the tires are only rated to 55mph in the first place.
You could swap out the gears in the...
Mine kinda works the same way. I can flick it to on and it doesn't do anything, but I can turn it past on and hold it and the light kicks on, and the glow plug does it's thing.
