put the fenders on and drove it around the block, runs good, did not push it much, transmission is shifting early and my throttle position sensor is not being seen so i probably have the wires crossed. i will check that next and plug it into the laptop to see the program.
good news is there...
got a few things fixed
I left the thermostat alone and installed it, made sure the hole was up so air could bleed before fluid. It seams to work now. I fixed most other issues. I had the oil presure sending unit wires backward. once i switched the wires the check engine light went off and...
I will consider the mechanical temp gauge in the future. At this time I am using the civvy cluster with the gauges in the dash, I also have my exhaust temp and turbo pressure gauge mounted on the steering column so I have no gauges on the dash or below the dash. I have the idiot light sending...
I am using the correct water pump, i purchased a flow Kooler 6.2 pump and are using the 6.2 backing plate. I think my high flow thermostat is not working. I am going to pull it out and boil it tonight to see if it is opperating. it is supposed to be a 180 degree thermostat. I am not sure what...
It is running, sounds good but i have a few bugs to work out.
The first is my oil presure gauge is pegged. the gauge goes to 60 and the needle is past that on what would be 80 or more. I am using the same sending unit that came out of the 6.2 and it never went over 60 psi before.
The second...
yes the ARP studs have been worth every penny. They have been installed 4 times now.
The test set I got from the auto parts store was brand new, I think I was the first to use it.
It had adapters to test the cap and my cap would let pressure off at 17 psi so it is nice to know I have the right...
The head gasket change fixed the problem.
Don't buy Enginetech head gaskets unless you want practice changing them.
I pumped it to 15lbs and it held for 3 hours. I figured that was long enough. There was not anything printed on the radiator cap but testing it, 16lbs is the most it will hold...
see if you can find a starter shop and have yours rebuilt. the shop near me did it in two days. if your truck is stock, those are correct. but maybe china junk. getting yours rebuilt by a good shop, you will know it is good. my rebuild cost 200 so those are cheaper but may not be as good.
I got the head gaskets replaced. The drivers side was not leaking but I am pretty sure it was going to once pressure was applied. It was just like the other one where paint had made it all the way into the gasket up to the grommets at the cylinder bores.
I installed the intake manifold and the...
yes, i am glad i found it before i got the fenders on it. I don't think it would have survived the start up. Once the water pump presured up, i think it would have leaked in many places. I should have the heads back on it tonight and i am going to do a presure test of some kind before putting...
I think it is the gasket. no issues with head or block both surfaces are like brand new. The gasket does have grommets around the cylinder boars and the metal tabs. one of the metal tabs was not seated in the black rubber stuff that coated the entire gasket. Also the metal grommets appear to...
get some gasket material and cut your own, probably save a lot of time. The parts guys behind the counter are not what they used to be. finding a parts guy with enough knowledge to look something like that up will be your biggest challenge. I would not use cork for that one, because you...
new head, new motor, did not leak the last time. The head that got damaged was the other side (bolt hole fixed). no bent rods, new lifters. using ARP head studs torqued to 90 lbs. bought a new torque wrench. bolts torqued in correct order. I really think the gasket has to be bad. the motor...
either keep it stock or go all out. one change requires another. bigger tires needs bigger axles.
definitely need insulation in the cab. removing the dash and insulating the fire wall makes a real difference in noise.
coast to coast in a screaming tin can is not a good trip without ear...
maximum frustration
maximum frustration.
Got the coolant added. did not get to the oil yet and heard something dripping on the floor. The gasket is leaking where the paradox kit mounts to the water crossover which is an easy fix but the real problem is the head gasket on the passenger side...
http://offroaddesign.com/catalog/swaybarkit.htm
Kit, goes where the sway bar attaches to axle, raises back of sway bar 2 inches, so half the distance of the lift and can be disconnected when off road. it also incorporates shackles where it connects giving it some movement front to back when the...
