    bypassing the FDC

Re: RE: Re: bypassing the FDC Except for biodiesel and veggie oil. The FDC reduces the amount of fuel delivered and you are better off with it bypassed in this case. Biofuels are more viscous than diesel, but the BTU values are lower and don't fit the curve. The FDC only works and is...

    Axle Breather Valves

RE: Re: RE: Axle Breather Valves I went all the way on this one for the deuce and plumbed all the vents (exept the transmission) so that they can also be pressurized for fording. Needless to say, the xm757 came this way from factory.

    Diablo Build Update (pics)

As for the mirrors, check out the m656/xm757, they were a hot item back in the late sixties and seventies when they first became available, from what I read. NSN 2540-00-168-2186 (RH) and 2540-00-168-2187 (LH).

    Diablo Build Update (pics)

Sorry to read about your clutch problems, Mike. The MF engines have two dip stick bosses, depending on how the oilpan is oriented. I'm now using the unused one for my (bypass filter) return for the lds465 engine.... The oil drain plug is used for the preoiler, need to enlarge the port size for...

Good ideas for screw extraction, please

USPS got me the lefthanded bits from Will in record time, only two days from CA. Thanks again Will! The bits worked too well and cut the grade 5 bolt without turning it. I put a so called, screw extractor of the tapered spiral kind in and even used the impact on it without budging the remains of...

    Front end wobbles.....

The front end with NDCC tires is very sensitive to uneven wear. Start fresh with new identical tires in the front and don't include them in any kind of rotation. My current front tires have 5,000 miles on them and were new when installed (thanks, Jason in AR!) and there is no wobble or shimmy...

    6 Wheels vs. 10 WheelsthereT

Chains give you superior traction in the snow and mud, they are self cleaning regardless of tire tread and there is no need to air down. Image shows my working deuce some ten years ago, driving uphill in a foot of snow was never a problem. Did some measurements (what's new?) and it could easily...

    Best Coolant / Antifreeze

"Low silicate formula" comes up when you read the description of heavy duty (diesel) coolants too.

    One thing leads to another...

Everything Chris, the intake manifold elbow has a port for the boost already. :-) I intend to keep it stock, though, as much as possible, so don't look for "turning up" of fuel etc on this one...and the FDC stays on line until a leak is detected.

    Return line time

    PS magazine shows how again....

    Return line time

Lines (tubing) are 1/4 o.d. If you are replacing the old lines, why not reuse the fittings except for the ferrules, that's what I do.

Sorry number two, can't help you with your alternator, perhaps if you start a new thread you'll get some positive responses. Back to business, holes drilled and tapped for thermocouple probes (1/8 npt).

    One thing leads to another...

This thing has virtually no rust, just missing parts here and there and parts that need to be replaced. I'm really just cleaning it and fixing little things as I go along. I did consider taking the cab tub off and may still have to do that if the injection pump gives me trouble. The turbo is...

Removed the turbo this morning. Turns out it was only held with 3 bolts... Looks like the oil pressure regulator is next.

    Thermostat testing

Re: RE: Thermostat testing Agreed, I have even made a custom piece that is more or less permanent behind the grill work (several other posts on this) and will do the same for the 8x8.

That would be the power steering pump and hydraulic line to the cylinder.

    Return line time

The original "nuts" can be reused with new ferrules.

    Thermostat testing

Cooked the T-stat on the range top the other day. Checked for opening and closing. Worked good. Also noted that the hose connection to the radiator was "like new" on the inside, while the recirculating connection to the waterpump was coated with normal coolant system residue, an indication that...

    One thing leads to another...

With the injection pump problem last week, I found it necessary to remove the radiator for access to the crankshaft (for manual turning). So, with the radiator removed the front of the engine was cleaned up and the coolant hoses and drive belts ready for replacement. There are also coolant hoses...

    trans gear ratio math, etc

Lee, the ratio of the adapter is marked on it (it's located on the transfer case). For the 900-20 ndcc it is 0.169:1 and for the 1100-20 ndcc it is 0.200:1 (IIRC). If the adapter doesn't match your tires then the error will be about 8% in this case. I drove my deuce on single 900 tires for a...
