I simply have mine standing upright in the back facing the side inbetween the wheel well and back with a ratchet strap to the side and through the tire. Takes up minimal space.

That is the newer style of turn signal switch that can be used with the newer black bigger steering wheel that has a cancel ring underneath to turn blinker off automatically after turn is complete. I think you still have the old style wheel. The newer one is worth the upgrade if you can find it...
Another thread on here that suggested using a neutral safety switch for a Massey fergeuson farm tractor as it had the correct oddball threads. I bought one off ebay for $15. Had not installed it yet but looks like it will work perfectly. Just makeing my own wiring harness
They sit real high in my mind, wider than most tow vehicles, and unless you need hmmwv wheels/tires, another level of complexity.
My personal preference would be the m116a2 chassis series of gen set trailers or an m101a2 if you want the traditional "box" bed. Easy peazy rim and tires widely...

Put a parts wanted ad up. I found mine from a fellow member. Pretty straight forward if you wanted to make your own. Just one hole access and cut outs for the straps.

Just a note of caution that they do not fit a truck with no armour. They will need to be modified and stick out much further out from fender.
I do have a correct used one in New Orleans but will not ship if anyone is visiting the big easy.
