What I had thought migth work nicely, is to tint the windows kinda like a city bus 'wrap'. That would camo the window over, matching the body paint, but still let you see out through them.
Patrick, what I had considered doing (since I cant use the mount in its originaly location do to my dump PTO) was to mount the tire crane to the tailgate. Mounting, such that tail gate is flipped down, and tire is cranked up and attached. Flip tailgate/tire up together. I know it might be hard...

Based off of this information, you are probably right. Either that, or you burned the wire between the alternators. By cutting the connection you did, it left a path of voltage through the alternator wiring still.

Al, I would follow all the wires leading to the drives side alternator. Make sure they are all intact. Use a volt meter to see if the 'red' (I think) wire on the back of the alternator has 12v with respect to ground. Also...
