I don't see how filling it up to the filler plug could over-fill it... It's lubricated by the lower gears being submerged in oil and transferring it to the upper gears. Knowing that these transmissions like to weld their 2nd gear to the main shaft, I'd rather go with more oil than less. I fill...
Great looking goat! I wouldn't mind owning one of them someday... I do love those old Detroits! I bought my deuce in non-running condition, and if the engine turned out to be junk I was going to put a 4-53 in it. It was bittersweet to discover that it's whistler was in excellent condition...
Return the Napa part and buy the Wix part... But while you're at Napa, you might check - it seems that the Napa part number is usually the last four digits of the Wix part number, so a Wix 24067 should be a Napa 4067, not 4167. Maybe not a universal rule, but I have yet to see an exception.

I have a Detroit Diesel that idles like that for about a minute or two after starting up, only when the engine is cold. It's common for those engines, I was told it's the governor "hunting" and not to worry about it. If my deuce did it I wouldn't worry either, except that the governor is...
I'm certainly not trying to talk you out of putting a huge winch on your truck, but the 10k winch, properly rigged, will pull a fully loaded deuce up any terrain without any problem or shearing the pin. Remember that you can (should) use snatch blocks to double / quadruple the capacity of the...
It's the rear winch... supposedly 20,000 lb capacity, same as a wrecker's rear winch. I can't get the cover open with the derrick down, so I've only gotten a little peek at the winch so far.

Wow, I can't believe I missed that thread! The irony is that I missed a thread that included pics of V-18s while I myself was preparing for my trip to pick up a V-18 (you posted the pics the weekend before... I wasn't online much).
Anyway, I can't believe they would part those out - they look...
I'm sure I'm in the same boat here... I just removed the fuel tank on my 1952 V-18A/MTQ, and I can't see the bottom of the tank through the crud. I'll have to determine how bad it is before I decide which way I want to go about fixing it.

Thanks David! That's a great tip... Although mostly complete and in excellent condition, my truck still needs some parts that are unique to these trucks...
Marcus, when you find this place, I'd love to get some contact info so I can talk to them about what I need... Here's the V18-specific...
Awesome truck, looks to be worth every penny. When my deuce is done at the end of this month, I'm sure I'll discover that I have put at least as much into it!

I'd like to find a set of the 1st style (single arm) for my V-18A/MTQ... right now it has civilian west coast mirrors on it that are beat up, but it still has the mount for the old single arm that holds the small round mirror head. Anyone have a good set they would like to sell?

Can someone post a pic of these loops? I wondered if my cab top blowing up like a parachute while I'm on the freeway was normal... I obviously have a newer version, but I will make some "loops" and sew them on. Are they made of pieces of canvas? Webbing?

Do you have the old ones? My V-18 has a lot of data plates that are unavailable, and the ones I have are in poor shape. I am going to restore the ones I have. I was planning to use paint stripper to get all the old black paint off, then lightly spray them and very carefully remove the paint...
