Nice truck congrats. Running those tires on the front is bad news you should replace them with something newer. Especially if you will be driving around with kids.
Winch trucks have a standard pto attached to the trans there. It is possible the t case has its own circulation pump though. Most divorced t cases do. This is the first married one I have had. Some parts like valve body or solenoid actuators are under the pan and intended to be replaceable...
I used to play with old GM cars. I kind of learn as I go. I have one here that gives me a solenoid error and won't go into gear. I played with it a bit but didn't have a lot of time to give it. It's a first gen truck but has wtec3 like the A1 trucks. The wtec2 is a bit easier to diagnose from a...
Your best bet is to have the Allison dealer take a look at it. Also the wire harnesses can get some corrosion on contacts over time and that can create all kinds of issues. The allison dealer has plug in diagnostics.
Maybe thats why the military got rid of it or maybe someone tried to run it low on fluid after it was drained. Allisons in general are robust reliable units.
Cab parts are mostly interchangeable. Rear axles are slightly different. 5 ton models have large aux trans coolers. Behind the cab on the tractor and hidden under the bed on the cargo versions. Higher HP on the 5 ton engine.
Allison lists approved fluids on their website. I go with the stuff right from the Allison dealer Transynd if I am swapping fluid. I have not changed the fluid in any of my lmtv trucks though.

I didn't see it on the Allison approved list. If it worked before with the military fluid and it won't work now that you changed the fluid, go back to the old fluid type.
Turn the air governor up a tad. It's normal to have the pressure slightly different from tank to tank. The governor is on the compressor drivers side of the engine.
It won't go fast but is very comfortable on the road compared to other military trucks. Check fluids but you should be fine. They max out at around 57 but mileage is better at 53 or so. Having a flashing Amber light of some sort is a good idea when driving that speed on highway especially long...
Just to clarify. When the truck takes away air from the spring brakes, it sends air to the service brakes (non spring like the fronts) which are in the same chamber housing. So just because you have air at the cans does not mean you have air at the spring brakes. I have heard of dash valves...
The gladhands don't function for air supply unless you activate the trailer control dash valve above the parking brake. There is a small check valv behind the fron grill its plumbed to the passenger side front gladhand. That's a popular culprit when brake release issues arise. I don't believe...
