Yikes! Wow dude...I feel for ya.
Am I the only one who's finger started to tingle just looking at that picture?
Oh well...will make a great story for the kids someday....
I believe this is what your mechanic is looking for:

Looks like page 1-28.
Yes, the ARB option. $$$, but best-of-both worlds. Air operated even....perfect. Flick of a (air) switch, you're locked or open. Easy.
I have a set (3 units) ready to go in....as soon as I can figure out how to get the bed off of mine to gain access to the diffs. :) I've seen them for the...
Dude...I posted how to do this winch thing like 5 times, including the hardware and some gotchas on doing this...including things like shearpins, PTO studs, and lever mounting. Research is your friend. :)
I bet you had fun with those 12" long, 1/2" grade 8 bolts, huh? :) I had to custom-order...
I remember driving around the bases there in Honolulu as a kid (Dad was Navy) in the late 70's and seeing hundreds of those things lined up side-to-side along the back roads there at Hickam and Ft. Shafter. I can only assume they were stored there after Vietnam.
Cool to see one running out...
Personally I like the project so-far. It's interesting and unique.
I think the only thing I would have done differently was thrown a welding blanket over the air bags before welding those mounts on. That slag was hitting the bags and bouncing off when he was welding...not good for the bags...
WOW! Just WOW! 1/48 scale!!!!
Man, he can get those 1/48 scale plane kits for it and it would work. A lot of 1/48 scale stuff out there for that.
What an amazing effort....I'm stunned. I would love to know more about this project!
Some more on 1/48 scale...
As the original poster said in his reply, this guy needs to get a wrecker to tow it. 10 miles can't be that expensive (relative to the risk involved doing it otherwise). Low drama, high safety by just calling in a pro.
Looks like a Harbor Freight cart there. :) I use one for my TIG welder (not a Miller). I had to replace the front casters on mine...they sucked (would not track right). Got some better ones at HF.
I have this one:
Miller - MIG Welding - Millermatic® 211 Auto-Set™ with MVP™
It's a *great* welder, and note the dual-voltage capability.
OK, it's not cheap at about $1200, but what a great welder it is. Makes me look like a pro...
Semi-hijack here, but important for beginning and home welders alike.
Something to be very careful about when welding:
Brake Cleaner = Phosgene Article
Note that because Aluminum needs to be so clean to get a good weld, that people are more likely to use brake-clean (or other solvent...
Awesome! Great to see an MV on a major show like that. I love the subtle "Steel Soldier" reference. :D That dialogue section about the framing of the bed was good...Ian clearly knows his stuff. Spoken like a true fabricator.
Can't wait to see the rest of the project!!!!
This is one of my...
I'll be coming down from PDX that Thursday (all day). Not taking any MVs (too far to drive the deuce!) but will have plenty of space to haul stuff there/back if anyone wants to caravan.
I'll be in spots 113 and 114 if anyone wants to swing by...
Calling an AM General a Kaiser is a bit like calling your AMC a Hudson, or your Nissan a Datsun. Same company...but the Insurance company will probably catch on if you try it. Call it what it says on the data plate to avoid confusion later (when you least need 'confusion', like in an insurance...
