I'm working on a 831 that needs a starter. I have a couple of parts machines and can pull one if necessary but I was going to see if anyone has a source for one that isn't $350.
I can find the 12v versions of the starter all day for like $60 but the 24v version is stupid expensive.
I get...
Yep. Picked up another one. For some reason the ones on trailers sometimes go for better prices than ones not on trailers. Go figure. Ignore those other boxes. Nothing to see there. :D
Anyway, I talked to the load out guy for a while today and asked about inventory. The lot is empty of military...
Has anyone successfully replaced the cooling fans on a MEP831 with something other than the OEM?
I've been doing some searches and fans in the 150mm aka 6" range that fit are not that common.
I'm in need of a couple at the moment.
One of the MEP1030s I recently picked up was missing a radiator cap. A quick trip through the TM returned a number that I was not able to cross to anything on the civilian side. Not wanting to spend $100 for a radiator cap I took the one from the other unit over to the local auto parts store and...
Over the weekend I got the fuel lines on one of the 803's replaced so I could load test it. Started the unit and warmed it up. It had the normal raw fuel smell the LP engines have before they warm up BUT in this case the smell only decreased some but didn't go away. Hm...
I warmed it up and...
This is why replacing the fuel lines on a machine from auction is NOT OPTIONAL! These machines are zero time and look absolutely brand new.
Got to love the overspray on the engine paint. They painted EVERYTHING.
So, I put some bids on a few items and expected as usual to get outbid but NO.. I won three MEP803s.
That leaves me with one big problem, My wife is going to kill me.
They all have batteries, run, and make power WOOHOO!!
I'm still going to die though.
She doesn't know about the two H140s...
I picked up a 5kw powerplant at auction recently. It was obvious that the unit had never seen service. Both generators had no hours and all the MFG dates matched up between the generators and the trailer.
The fun part was opening the tool box. It still had a lead seal on it. @DavidPoz was...
I brought home a MEP802 powerplant setup today. The generators will be heading off to new homes soon. I'm curious if there is much of a market for the trailer?
Does the air over hydraulic brakes make it more challenging to sell?
I have a few minutes before my next meeting so I'm watching a couple generators cross the blocks at gov planet. I've been looking for a reasonable parts machine to snag and I'm amazed at what I'm seeing happening with the auctions for machines. Machines that are missing parts and don't run. One...
Curious if anyone has measured the contact area of the tires or have seen any numbers for ground pressure on a FMTV or LMTV?
I've done some searching but haven't found anything useful yet.
I have a fuel tank from a MEP003 that was parted out years ago. Figured it would make a good AUX tank for the other generators. Its super clean inside.
Hacked a few pieces of scrap wood together as a base to hold it and there ya go. An extra 12 gallons of fuel at the ready!
I'm going to cap...
Why are ring and pinion sets for these axles thousands of dollars each?
Are there any tricks to getting a set of highway gears without breaking the bank?
A reasonably priced alternative to JIC fuel hoses is to make up your own with -6 hose and fittings. Ordered some braided fuel hose and some AN6 fittings. Everything went together easily and it works perfectly.
First post here in this section. I searched around a bit to find the info on the engine speed sensor since the M1081 I recently purchased had a tach that didn't work. I didn't find a post with a concise breakdown of the problem so I decided to make one. I was thinking that the sensor was the...
I started up the 831 yesterday to charge batteries and noticed some soot coming out of the gap in the insulation wrap between the exhaust tube leaving the engine and the main muffler body. Pulled back the jacket as much as I could and noticed a crack radiating out from the welded fitting.
I'll...
Tonight in central NC we have the potential for a bit of freezing rain. That can be a really bad time here if we get trees down on power lines this far out into the woods. Figured it was time to give the MEP803 a bit of a workout. Warmed it up and increased the load till we got it a bit over...
I know I've mentioned this before but it does bear mentioning again.
When you bring a new machine home you really need to open it up and check EVERY connection in it. Every terminal, every switch, every plug. One loose wire can do more than cause a gremlin it can destroy the machine. The...
