    Glow plug replacement

When I changed the glowplugs in on M1009 last year, I borrowed the tool from a friend in case I needed it. As it turned out, I didn't need the tool since my glow plugs unscrewed and slid right out. I added a bit if antisieze to the new plugs before I put them in. I also solidered on new clips...

    Doghead Mod Failure

I would say that it you checked the wiring to ne in the right locations any you checked the round wire terminals and both of these were OK,, Then it has to be the new relay that is bad. The part, whether you get it from NAPA, or any other parts place, thay are all the same and made overseas...

2000 CCA worth of new batteries!

These are the same ones I put in my M1009 a couple of months ago. They do spin the engine fast. A couple of weeks ago I bought 2 more of these batteries and put them in my Komatsu D31 dozer. The batteries spin the dozer fast and it cranks after about 1/4 turn. They are few good batteries.

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

I also would like to see the reference in the TM's for the CUCVs. Not saying it's not there but I'd be hard pressed to believe that the original CUCV TM's from the mid 80s would show a Trombetta part number for the relay and the mod directions. Why do they call it the Doghead Mod? Cause he...

    Very simple spare tire question

I always try to mount the spare tire with the outside down, This way you have access to the valve stem so you can check the air in the spare tire occasionally. It has not happened to me, but I have had friends who had a flat and when they pulled the spare out from under the truck the spare...

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

The relay change has nothing to do with whether it is 12 or 24 volts. What you will be doing is removing an 25 year old unreliable relay and replacing it with a new "beefier" heavy duty relay. Everything else remains the same.

Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

I did my M1009 about a month or two ago. Everyone needs to do it to prevent the relay from hanging open and burning the starter up.

fuel filter mod w/pix but still not running!

Could it be that the peacock valve in the picture is closed? I believe the valve handle should be aligned with the tubing line when it is open. It looks almost closed in the pictures. Could be starving for fuel.

    Help, no start....

Mine did the same thing - would turn over but did not start. I changed the glow plug relay on the engine firewall and problem solved. It does not sound like a fuel issue with yours, cause mine was doing the same thing.

Introduction and horror story from today

Good news on getting the problem corrected. I guess you can get water into any fuel source but do not buy fuel at small places where they do not sell a lot of fuel. I try to only buy from places where they sell a lot of fuel. You may also want to consider changing out the fuel filter.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Fixed my starting issues by replacing my Glow Plug Relay on the engine firewall. Next up - replace my Speedometer cable to correct the needle bounce. Tried 2 different Speedometers and they both bounce. Its gotta be the cable of the transmissin adapter of yellow gear.

    Glow plug relay ?

I thought it might have been the GP Controller Card causing the problems, so I changed it out with a spare that I had. No luck, didn't help. Today I changed out the GP Relay with a new one I bought from O'Rielly's. The truck cranked right up. The wait light stayed on for maybe 5-8 seconds and...

I did the same exact thing as in this post except I added a layer of the foil bubble wrap insulation betwwen the bottom layer and the rubber mat. The floor in the M1009 is as cool as it can be.
