My M1008 had been running great. The other night I was forced to lock up the brakes when a semi turned in my path. Everything seemed fine but a day later I noticed an "oily" spray on the tailgate. A day later the truck started shifting strange and wouldnt move forward after stopping until I...
Ive been trying to replace my worn out MTs since April.
Got a set of 90% MTRs from Faith Tire via eBay. He sent an extra 70% tire for a spare (Nice!) After trying 2 of the tires I found they both had sidewall punctures.
Faith Tire is good seller and sent me two more tires....unfortunately out of...

Thanks
I know the passenger side alternator has an isolated ground for the 24 volt side of the system. There is a phenolic insulator on the (-) ground lead on the alternator. I looked at the drivers side alternator and it has the same phenolic insulator. Ive got a wicked alternator whine on the 12 volt...
I have the original GP relay in my 86 M1008. It has never made a "clunk" when it functions. Ive been in other CUCvs and 80s diesel Chevys and I always recall hearing a clunk as the relay cycles. Even my Dodge Cummins has a "clunk" in the relay. My M1008 has always been a hard starter. When I...
Ive looked around and I cant finrd a difinative answer for my M1008. The alternator on the the drivers side is for 12v, the alternator on the passenger side is isolated and produces 24v (12+12) for the second battery. I have an "alternator whine" on my communications equipment mounted in my...
I know several CUCVs have "DO NOT STEAM CLEAN ENGINE" stenciled inside the engine compartment. I figured it was for most of the 19 YOA GIs dont know any better and would hose the relays, alternators, and intake. But is there another reason why?
Members feelings, experiences cleaning the engine...
Just checking to see if any members have used oil analysis on their CUCV.
For those unfamiliar with oil analysis it is used in aircraft engines/turbines to determine if the engine is failing (iron, metal deposits) A sample of the oil is sent to lab for analysis on a routine schedule. The follow...
A buddy was at Ft Cason CO picking up some HMMMVs for our dept.
He said there were several V-100s there at the DRMO.
Guess theyre still out there!
Maybe a SS member near Ft Carson could confirm?
The wing nuts to the air cleaner (M1008 ) had stripped out at the upper air cleaner cover level. They would also spin around as the engine idled. I took a couple of rubber o ring washers and placed them under the wing nuts. This gave them new threads to bite and the rubber keeps them from...
I was examining my harmonic balancer when I found witness marks around the outer rim. Further evaluation I found the timing marker was loose and rubbing against the balancer. Dont know if it would cause damage or just an annoyance.
Always something else to check......;-)
I installed 37" tires on my M1008 after a 5" lift. I have a slight rub on the front fenders.
What device(s) did you use to trim the fenders?
How much should I trim?
What did you do with the cut areas so they don't become future body hackers? Rolled edges? Rubber trim?
Thanks
Ive got a guy who will trade my front hubs (M1008 ) for his dually hubs. I pulled the locking hubs and found the smooth nut with 4 notches. Went to NAPA and they sold me a socket that will work on "all DANA 60 axles up to 1 tons"...aaaaaah....wrong! The nut is bigger! Found another 4 prong...
Ive had my M1008 about 10 years. Its always been a little stubborn starting when its cold or sat for a while. When its warmed up you barely touch the starter and VOOM it fires right up.
Lately its getting more arthritic and harder to start when its cold. I fire the GPs twice through the GP card...
I was looking at some deuces on the GL website. Some on them have what looks like a half hubcap or wheel weight on the front and rear wheels. What is that? Purpose?
Thanks
Fowler
